I have considered upgrading my thermal pads in my Envy, but know nothing about high performance thermal pads/tape.

I assume using standard TIM like AS5/Gelid GC would not make up for the gap probably created with a typical thermal tape/pad, but which thickness is considered normal? I have heard of people using copper shims for this, but I would rather not.

Would something like this be any good?

Also 3M seems to make a variety of thermal tapes and such, any feedback 3M?

Edit - I have also seen alternatives like the Coolaboratories Liquid MetalPad but I assume is is not thick enough. Thoughts?
