Just go to control panel > Uninstall a Program, then remove anything you aren't likey to use. Most importantly, get rid of Norton antivirus straight away! and install your own AV or a decent free one like Avira.

Then go through some of these tweaks:

But be careful, skip the ones that have warnings on them if you aren't sure.
After I did those tweaks with my DV5 it was really fast and still is :)

Then go to the HP website, find your exact model number and in the search and find the drivers page.
Use Device Manager in the control panel to check if your drivers are outdated compared to the ones on the site.

Yes it does, say bye bye to it lol :p

Actually 5's pretty high, the highest you can get is 5.9, but the windows experience index scores aren't the most accurate anyway.

I get 4.9 total on mine and I have the 9600M GT, that was after installing the latest Nvidia driver too...

    Google Decrapifier and download it!

It is the best bloatware removal program!

definitely create your recovery discs. after you do that, you can nuke you're recovery partition, but i wouldn't, but that's just me. can never have to many back ups.
