    Background:

About a year ago my DV2000z melted, so I sent it in to get repaired. After about a month or two of talking to random customer service representatives, I finally got in touch with a case manager who alerted me to the fact that they no longer had the "part" they needed so they were going to send me a new laptop.... after another few weeks I got my DV2500.

Now, my DV2500 has had some pretty crazy temperatures from time to time, but I guess you could say I have learned to live with it. My Hitachi HD died, I am assuming from the crazy temperatures my video card has been pumping out. Rather than go through HP again, I just bought an HD myself, which is currently buzzing around at a nice and chilly 52C.

Turns out I still have my case manager's number/extension, so I was thinking of contacting her and letting her know what's been going on... what do you guys think? Furthermore and more importantly, what do you think they will do? Will they "repair" it or send me a brand new one? I am currently overseas so I am looking at a lot of Fedexing to and from family stateside, so I am not sure if it's worth it if they are just going to fix my 8400GS or something...

Any thoughts would be most helpful. Thank you.

Sounds to me your good ol' DV2500 is in need of an overhaul. I'd recommend that you ask HP to give you some voucher or something and upgrade to a newer laptop.

Unfortunately, it isn't that easy to get a replacement.

I'm not sure if your DV2500 is in warranty or out of warranty, but I assume out of warranty. They can't do anything if it's out of warranty.

If I am assuming wrong and your warranty is still effective, then call up the HP customer service and they can replace the hard drive by sending you one or repair the laptop in whole.

The Case Managers open a transaction number with you and after 30 days of inactivity they are released from the case. You wouldn't be able to contact the same manager. You'd be helped by the person who picks up the phone.
