Sup guys. I've been a long user of the 17 inch line of Dell laptops or as some people call them "Dulls" and I'm ready to switch to HP. I really want to get the HP DV9000 because of the video card and because I heard it comes with a tv tuner device.

Can you guys tell me if this is a good purchase. I mostly use my laptop for gaming, watching dvds, and surfing the web. I would like to start recording shows off of my tv for archiving. Is the quality of the tv tuner pretty good? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thx guys. :)

NO it doesnt come with it, you have to purchase it as an add-on it isnt standard. also the dv9000 is discontinued, the dv9500t is the replacement.

I'm typing on my dv9500t right now and I've gotta say, after having it for only a week, I absolutely love this machine. Although I'm not overly excited about the 1440x900 display I have (it really isn't that bad at all, but I honestly don't know why I didn't upgraded!) you should definately get the 1680x1050 display. I've had Dell's in the past and for a minute was actually considering getting another, but for a lot cheaper than what I would've paid for a Dell, I got better specs and cool features (the finger print reader is GREAT). Also, HP's just looks better! :) I really have no complaints what so ever. I'm very satisfied w/my purchase.

I didn't get the TV tuner so I can't help ya out there. I do watch TV on my laptop (through my Sling Player) and the 17" screen is great. One thing I can recommend if you do end up purchasing a 9500t, is to stick around these forums. The information/recommendations/solutions to problems has been invaluable! ;)

Why spend the money? According to your sig, your Dell has very modern specs and will perform no different from the dv9500t. Also, your dell likely has XP on it. With HP, you don't get that option, your only choice is Vista which you'll soon learn is a complete piece of garbage excuse for an OS.

Keep your dell and save your pennies for when Quad-Core laptop cpu's become available.

Buy an ExpressCard or Firewire or USB tv tuner if you need that functionality today. The HP tv tuner is simply an aftermarket ExpressCard, nothing special.

I'm using the HP TV Tuner (the Yuan EC300) and it's fantastic. Nice and small and the quality is fantastic. And it works great in Media Centre. Highly recommended.
