    Hi,
    I have a DV6 1150ei
2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7450 3 MB Level 2 cache
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 512MB memory
3Gb DDR2 Ram running on VistaHP

    3dMark06 gives me 3333
WEI has 4.7 for Win graphics,5.0 for gaming graphics, rest are 5.1 and over.

With the other card available with the DV6 the ATI Radeon HD 4650 it seems like i should be able to double the above 3dMark06 score according to http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4650.13883.0.html.

What i'm thinking of doing is getting parts & changing to

    Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor T9900 - 3.06GHz (Penryn-MV, 1066MHz front side bus, 6MB total Level-2 cache. (Part # 570434-001)

System board (motherboard) - For model with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 graphics, 1GB memory (Part # 518431-001)

CPU fan and heat sink assembly
    (Part # 518435-001)

I THINK the 4650 and the T9900 is as high as i can go without risking a bios issue as their both available on a DV6 CTO and appear to use the same bios(F.24A).
To stick to a "P" series processor i would need to go with [email protected].
4650 is still only 64bit so has anyone gotten a better ATI card to run in a DV6? (EDIT: wrong, the 4650 is 128bit)
The viDock option i loved till i see it needs external monitor

Anyone have any bones to throw re pro's cons or anything?

Well, what you are planning to do seems an expensive upgrade and while the 4650 is a decent card why not get a laptop which has a GPU which can handle your requirements in the first place. As far as the T9900 dont buy from HP since its going to be overpriced and a P8800 should be fine since the cpu is not going to be your bottleneck. The 4650 is the best you can do since HP integrates the GPU with the motherboard so you will be replacing the motherboard to do that upgrade.

Yes was a rushed buy with my previous laptop damaged so i never had alot of research time....Rest of the laptop i'm happy as with, just like it to perform a bit better when it comes to a game...i thought 512MB dedicated would of but not the case.
    Running the v9.9 Catalyst also.

As seen in my sig, my DV6 is running an AMD CPU (so less powerful than yours). I got the HD4650. 3Dmarks06 score is 5900 pts. With your CPU, you could possibly score, dunno, anywhere 6300-7000 pts (estimated).

yeah i think your right just leave the processor alone for now and see what gives once the 4650 is in...saves quite alot and i can always change later if need be...thanks for some common sense there Exercise

Yes its soldered on the mobo(HP call it system board) so what i intend to do is replace the mobo to the one that has the 4650 on it,... Part # 518431-001

it seems quite a number of people already upgraded their CPU on their DV6. i am planning to do the same. however, i just bought this laptop and will changing the CPU void my warranty? even if i ordered the CPU part from HP?

I have the T6500 CPU and at stock clocks I get 5914. By changing to a P7450 and at stock clocks, he will get around 6000 or so. i think a score of 6300+ at stock clocks is reserved for procs > P8400 :)

    http://h40059.www4.hp.com/warranty/information/faq.php#17

Q17. Will my warranty be affected if I install a non-HP upgrade/option in my HP product ?

HP warranty extends only to HP products and options. If you install a non-HP option into your HP product and this option then fails, you must contact the supplier for warranty cover on that item.

The warranty on your HP product will not be affected by the installation of a non-HP upgrade/option unless your HP product is damaged as a result of installation and/or operation of a third party option, such damage will not be covered by HP warranty.

If your HP product is not operating correctly, you may be asked to verify that any non-HP option is not responsible for the problem be uninstalling any such items.
    .............................................................................................................................................................

Thats what it says about non HP options so with HP options i guess its covered//Maybe for cpu they want authorized install tho - don't quote me tho ask them

Thought i'd update this thread as i finally got time to do it.
    P7450 2.1Ghz changed to T9900 3.0Ghz
Ati 4530 512MB board changed to Ati 4650 1GB board
Original 3dmark06 was on Vista & i'm now on win7 but gone from a 3333 score to a 6689 now.
Win7 WEI went from 4.7 to 5.9(5400 rpm hard drive the lowest value now)
Stripping the laptop down was pretty easy & no drama.
No left over screws so i guess thats a positive
No BIOS issues - booted straight back up as normal & just needed GFX drivers reloaded

Hi,I bought the parts from Dectrader as they ship international www.dectrader.com

Are you in SA? Cos i still have the fan assembly off my original board - I think i didn't need to change fan/heatsink assembly cos both were the same except differant part no's.That i didn't know till i got to see the new one was the same as the original.
If your in SA i can probably sell you my one if your interested. Its in "as new" condition
