    Thoughts on Pavilion dv2000t series?

I’m thinking of getting the Pavilion dv2278ea (which I think is the UK equivalent of the American Pavilion dv2000t).

    This is the model:
    http://h41306.www4.hp.com/itemDetails?SID=b4c6193f4c79969b270bee26e3c3a5c2cf8:1223&sku=RZ978EA

Here’s my question: does anyone either have this model or the US equivalent (with 14.1 screen, running vista, etc)

I have always used and liked HP laptops but recently bought a Sony C-series which I had for about two hours before returning (crazy high pitched buzzing sound coming from the hard drive). So I’m thinking of returning to good old HP (either that or forking out the cash for a Vaio SZ, but I’m not sure how reliable they are.) Anyway, I have this ancient Pavilion ze5600 which has been around the world at least twice and never failed me, so I wondered what people thought about the newer models re: battery life, reliability, ease of use, etc.
    Thanks!

My wife has the dv1660se, which is pretty similar to that one. It is a great pc and would recommend it to anyone. The only thing I would consider upgrading is if you travel alot, get the 12cel battery. It sticks out the bottom of the laptop but it has 4+ hours of life, apposed to 2 hours on battery and imho the ergonomics of it are better in that it tilts the keyboard up slightly from the rear. I have an old dv1207us that has the 6cel and I like her bigger battery better. It adds a small amount of weight but that's the only drawback other than the $$.

You will like that pc. imho

I have a dv2000t and like it alot - only one minor issue, for me, and thats the size/weight of the 12-cell. I like to check e-mail/etc at night in bed before I go to sleep and each morning before I get up, and to me the 12-cell makes the whole laptop too heavy and awkward. My fault though - I ordered it w/ the 12-cell. Very bright display, solid construction, great wireless. Only other consideration is you may want to wait a month thereabouts for Santa Rosa.

I have a dv2000t (dv2122tu). Runs great. The balance between 14" and weight is nice. The display is bright and battery life is about ~2.35.

thanks for your responses - really helpful, and the machine sounds like a good one.

do any of you get any high pitched buzzing sounds coming from your machines, though? i got a sony c-series and returned it because of that, and i now read that it's pretty common problem, not just with sony's but with all laptops (including hp) that use core 2 duo. any thoughts?

No unusual/buzzing sounds from mine - two little irritants with the Vista hdd (I have XP on one - Vista on 2nd) - there is a noticeable pop from the speakers when it boots and one second or so of black screen after it is fully booted. Neither are showstoppers for me and my dv2000t is one of my best computer buys ever (2nd only to the Dell e1505)

I have a dv2000t that I bought back in August. I love it - it feels pretty solid, is stylish, and very fast. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have a dv2035us (dv2000t retail variant) and I love it. Never had any problems with it, and it's without doubt the best notebook I've owned so far.

    You'll enjoy it.
