Yeah someone posted this yesterday..... As for the "silly 3D features" (actually, not silly at all) I would like to state.... most movies in theaters in 3D I did not enjoy. For some reason the Envy 17 3D with the Tridef Ignition software the Tridef 3D Media Player is amazing!!! I want to state for the record...I have no ghosting at all, zero! I can watch and 2D file I have in 3D and its beautiful.... the anime fans will know what I mean.... Dragonball Z in 3D anyone? Just watch Goku transform into a Super Sayjin 3 in 3D OMG! I never thought that could be...it was great! Doctor Who in 3D, Daleks!! ahahah

Anyway, the point it, I'm surprised how much I enjoy the 3D ascpect. The only thing is.....it can cause some headaches afterwards. LOL.

The only thing that I remember about dragonball Z when I watched it as a child was that it took the latter of 5 minutes for him to power up, while the entire time it sounds like he is playing with himself :| .

    Anyway off topic.

I just don't like the colour/design of the envy, maybe im being to greedy but I want the studio design they have for the XPS range. I wish I had a position of authority in HP because i'd kick em all up the backside hehehe. Quality control is important, but I think if the 6000 series, since most of the cards are gaining ddr5 support it should come with ddr5 obviously. So, I'd like the machine to be layed out like this kind of

    - Quad-Core or Dual-Core SB processor, (Does the quad have switchable now?)
    - 6730 or over clocked 6650 with DDR5
    - Usb 3.0 ports
    - Remove optical drive replace with more battery and usb 3.0 controller

I'd be a happy chappy if all that made it into the refesh.

I have to admit, as of now I don't think there will be a refresh of the envy 14 or an introduction of a new e15 at CES or this month. I mean HP has already announced other refreshes including the envy 17. Why would they be holding out? CES is already here, I think we would have heard something. We will probably see some refreshes and stuff of the like sometime in feb.

I am hoping for a silent refresh of the envy 14 by the end of jan. i need a new computer soon. Its not urgent but if i could have a sandy bridge equipped envy 14 with a high res screen( Radiance or better) I will be one happy camper. Don't forget the awesome new Quad core processors and the AMD 6 series gpus. :)

I have this image in-grained in my mind of clouds and rolling verdant hills with fluffy white bunnies and in the middle is a shiny Beats edition with Radiance display, Sandy Bridge processor, usb 3.0 and new 6000 series gpu.

In reality, from a specification point they don't need to refresh it. Apparently the 6000 series is the same as 5000 but some cards getting ddr5 support, the dual core arrandale keep their pace really well so...

    lets just hope!

Heres hoping the new envy gets a 6700m series, that would actually be a new card and not just a rebadge (the UVD 3 cards are the new revisions)

Wasn't the entire point of updating to the 6800m series to get hardware bluray3d support? Looks kinda wasted since it doesn't support it. And yeah I agree that even if the Envy ain't supposed to be a pure gamer PC, I'd atleast like to see an option to upgrade to 6900m when it comes out. I would easily pay 400+ just for that

Sorry StrikeSaber for making you regret your choice he-he-he.

They need to refresh the E14, Im tearing my damn heart out here waiting for it to say "ENVY 14 REFRESH IS REAL".

The 6700 need 1 billion colours now, and I demand it :p.

In unrelated news im getting my perfect computer room/bedroom set up within the next two months!

i really wanted to get the beats edition

but after missing out the super deals ( up to 500$ ) in savings i am really not eager for the full price again

i guess i am going to have to wait for the refresh
( only if the xps 14 had a better build quality and battery )

Haahaha, well, HP should offer a slightly thicker case for those wanting to get the HD 6900...premium prices should not bother HP. Get their engineers back to work!!!! MUSH! lol ;)

Haha have this image of some slave leader with a big whip, MUSH TECH MONKEYS YOU MUSH!

If they offered the 6900 (highly doubt this) they would need either a bigger case, or more cooling or lower the voltage or something. I'm no tech head, but I'd rather a cooler computer than 1% increased FPS personally.

I doubt it unfortunately, it might happen but it looks like they only want to support the 14 and 17 range.

If you need something thats similar and has good battery life, you can check out the acer timelineX 13.3" model, I think it has the same specs so i5 430/460 and radeon 5650. I'm not sure if those are correct, but I know for a fact people are getting 9 hours of battery life on those.

I've had to deal with Acers before, don't want to deal with them again. The build quality is just awful. I checked out that model, and everything looks fine except for the trackpad and the keyboard which supposedly has a bunch of flex which is a no-go for me.

I liked the Envy 13 I played with a bit at Best Buy - I wish they would've updated it instead of canning it.

Just found out that the Microsoft store is selling envy 14s for $799. i5-460, 4gb, 640gb drive. Seems like a really good deal. Maybe they are coming out with a new 14 soon? Seems like they are getting rid of them..

Keyboard flex isn't a biggie for me, but I'd like to see it outed too.

Keyboard backlighting should be brighter. Sorry, but if Apple can pull this off, why can't HP? I've realized over time it's just too lamely dim for low-light situations.

Hybrid drive-Not a bad idea, though as a fellow nerd, this doesn't concern me. I'll probably go with my own SSD upgrade anyway, hehe.

Battery slice-Include it? That would certainly be nice, but it should be optional so that others among us can keep the price tag low.

New synaptic touchpad-I'd be a huge fan of this.

    No bloatware-Agreed.

If the next E14 refresh includes the new Clickpad and a slew of other awesome awesome features, I'll gladly sell my current E14. After the double cashback bonanza, I ended up paying roughly $580 for my Envy instead of $1280. I doubt I'll lose too much money on eBay. :)

Looks like 2011 CES came and went without any mention of a refresh HP Envy. That's disappointing...I was expecting to see something new. Oh well...looks like i'll have to wait for a few more months. This is killing me...i'm working on a laptop that is about 10 years old. Funny to say that it's a HP zt3000...cost me $1200 back then.

If there isnt an affordable version of the refreshed E14 by march first; i think ill just go buy a sony Vaio S. Its 10 cheaper than the current HP envy 14 with HPA; and thats before sony student discount.

Sony doesn't have a student discount, all they offer is $100 off if you buy the extended warranty which costs like $200. And the $874 starting price is with an i3 while the Envy starts with an i5..it's also an extra $25 to get the backlit keyboard and another $50 for a GPU. All this is standard on the Envy. I was considering the S also, but I ended up getting a better deal with the Envy..if they were the same price I would definitely get the S

That's not necessarily true. They don't have a single/standard student discount rate, but many schools can get computers for their students at a nice discount. It all depends what was worked out between the school and the company (if any deal has been worked out at all). Just check with the department that sells your computer supplies to see if they have any Sony deals.

Ive used it so many times, you can get a better deal instore or on the phone then online cuz they give you extra discounts if you're a student depending on who you are :)
    sorry for the off-topic add-on :)
On-topic, Im waiting for an envy 14 refresh as well, as soon as I hear of a refresh, Im selling my Alienware and jumping on the E14 bandwagon :D just as long as it still has a Radiance screen and switchable graphics + if they offered the Radiance screen with a beat edition Ill just feel blessed

what are the chances we will be seeing these things in a refresh or update version of the Envy 17? if not this time maybe by the spring? summer?

The Windows PC ClickPad finally improved Synaptics ClickPad IS Series 3

    piano black finish Envy 17?

2 USB ports? or all usb 3.0 ports? According to what I have read they will becoming more mainstream.

I'm not even going to bring up Lightpeak that probably won't happen this year (even the copper version)

read into that what you want... it won't be long before someone will read this and then claim that the Envy 17 is coming February 9... you watch :D

based on the information we know, we can expect an Envy 17 much like the current Envy 17 but with

-Sandy Bridge processors, including DX10 compatible switchable on-board graphics

-improved cooling, both from CoolSense technology and from the above

    - same display choices, but that means the 1080p infinity (edge to edge glass) with .72 color gamut and 300 nit brightness should be available.

and what we know is that on Jan 4, HP said "soon". whatever that means

I'm going to assume, he still wants to play games but wants a smaller form factor and something that is easily portable unlike the juggernaut the alienwares are. I mean, I was in JB-hifi yesterday the m15x is easily 1.6 - 2 inches thick its a bloody behemoth. Maybe you can snatch up a good deal Joe, you have easily been the most patient member on the board (for the short time I've been here). I think its just the headphones for sale Joe, just checked it out then unless he is selling his AW for 45 pounds haha.

It looks like they have found a new supplier of Radiance screens, I don't think the quality would be any different than the original radiance screens but HP has the specs to make it the same as the other. Hopefully this time the company won't go under because the screen is so massively popular. For your information it looks like that on some screens (not sure if this applies to all) the first 'glass' layer is glossy and the one underneath is matte which apparently the source of the speckling problem.

If you need to get the Envy cheaper, there is a coupon code around here let me find it I think its for 200$ its fairly new and should still work.
I have the holy grail of the coupon, I hope this works otherwise I'll look like a jackass.

So would y'all suggest pulling the trigger on the current E14, since they bought the Radiance back?

I missed it the first time (when they had BCB !)... want to be sure before I pull the trigger on another 1.2K machine

that's not apples workers, they get parts from a Chinese company called Foxconn and those are the employees for Foxconn. Suicide in China is not uncommon anyway..but they do work 12 hours a day
