    Hi all, new user here.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how long HP usually takes to build a computer? This would be a replacement computer that HP is sending to me, since I've sent them my computer for repairs and the delivery date has been delayed 3 times. I read that many others have had this issue and HP has offered to send them replacements as well. My case manager says that it'll take about 7-14 business days but 7 and 14 is pretty different so I was wondering:

in your experience, about how long did the computer take from the time the order was sent in to the time you actually received it?

I just want/need to know because in about 2.5 week's time, I'll be leaving my house for return to college. I obviously would like to get it before I leave but if not, I would need someone at the house to receive and sign off the package for me.

    Thanks in advance!

The estimated date is usually 7 days to ship, but some people have reported getting it on the day it was suppose to be shipped.

betlegeuse, what kind of notebook did you originally have and what are they replacing it with? How many times did you send it in for repairs? I'm kinda in the same boat except I'm hoping my case manager gives me a replacement after 2 horrible repair services that did not fix anything. By the way, I still have classes with tons of papers due! Thanks, any info would help.

In my case, I ordered the dv4t on July 26, 2008. My estimated delivery date was August 7, 2008. Then, I got an e-mail that my notebook had been shipped on August 4. I got it on August 6.

I read other people's posts about their estimated shipping dates and delivery dates. If there is no problem with any component of your order and with FedEx, your notebook is likely to arrive a few days before the actual shipping date. However, there's no guarantee that your notebook will arrive earlier or on time. Therefore, ask your family member to stay at your house if you don't get it before leaving.

What notebook are you getting? If yours is one of the dv4t, dv5t, and dv7t, you should get it next week.

I ordered my dv5t on 8/13 with an estimated completion date of 8/20. I ordered the 2 day shipping at additional expense since I needed it by the following weekend. Received an email on 8/20 that it was done, checked FedEx tracking. It was too late to send out that day according to the tracking log so it sat around for an additional day in China. FedEx now says it won't be delivered till 8/25.

I've gone out and purchased a different laptop since I needed it and will return the HP when I get it next week. 12 days for delivery is a little much for me.

I sent in a dv2000 (dv2125nr to be exact) because of a bunch of issues, namely the computer not recognizing the wireless hardware anymore. Other issues include the monitor not turning on from time to time when I close the lid or shut the computer down, and the cd/dvd drive kept popping out just by lightly touching it. The wireless problem was (finally) recognized by HP though so they had the Extended Warranty for my model.
I only sent it in once, but my delivery date kept being pushed back 2 weeks at a time and yesterday was the 3rd time it was pushed back. apparently HP is still suffering from a lack of motherboard parts and no one knew when that shipment was coming in. I finally asked for a case manager yesterday and she, without asking me, offered to give me a replacement instead. I don't know how they would handle your problem because my surf around the blog-o-sphere turned up alot of entries talking about HP not fixing a **** thing. Some case managers seem nice about it (mine was great) but some are a major pain. There's no harm in trying to ask for a replacement, since HP has let you down so many times. Just tell them that someone in HP messed up big time and you shouldnt be the one suffering for it.

EDIT: Oh! and I found this to have worked wonders for me: always be nice and say your please and thank you's. even ask them how their day was. I got to my case manager (and another one I just called) and my info/computer and had zero problems topped with cheeriness and politeness all around.

Wow thats great! I actually talked to online tech at HP today and they told me it takes 2-3 weeks to build....... I didnt really believe her cause the case manager told me 2 weeks to actually get to me. I'm not sure which model I'm getting but it seemed like everything is an update. The only thing I couldnt remember is whether I'm getting another 14.1" (in which case I dont think i'll be getting the newer models because they dont make them in that size) or the 15"... I have to call my case manager and get my new specs on paper. I was out when I called in (dumb move on my part). But I would be so thrilled if it comes in next week! glimmer of hope!

EDIT: Ok so I just called and its a dv2700t, but i'll still cross my fingers for that delivery date of next week :)
