A couple of days ago Windows Update started bugging me to install SP1. I am currently running just fine and am not interested in any hassles at the moment so I am wondering if it will be a smooth transition or will there be headaches? I have a DV9335NR...

    thanks

Howdy, be happy to help you out here.

I am running Vista Home Premium SP1 that I installed on my desktop along with the fact that I have installed SP1 on several machines as a Staples PC Technician over the last few months.

Basically, it is a rather large download because it is a culmination update, and when applied, it takes a few minutes to shut down and reboot as it applies a lot of stuff during those two times, but overall I like it and tell people to install it because it fixes a lot of the earlier quirks with Vista as well as helps to stream line it a bit. Furthermore, I noticed that part of the updates listed in the service pack included some old code from Windows 2000/XP that was originally taken out. This is to help developers more easily create patches/new software and make it compatible with Vista as this was one of the most common complaints. This doesn't include it fixes a lot of security vulnerabilities that were found and patched because Vista was new.

My suggestion to you, if you feel it is a hassle to update, would be to set the computer to update before you go to bed or before going out to eat one night so you are not just sitting there "watching the pot boil" as the saying goes. Once its downloaded, you can restart whenever you are ready or set the reminder to notify you after 4 hours. The restart typically takes around 2 to 5 minutes to complete the restart and install depending on your system.

    Good advice BBGus,
I would add that you should always backup your "stuff" before you perform any update.

BTW - I'm running SP1 with no problems.
