I have an HP Pavilion dv4000 and whenever I try to charge it, the part of the adapter that plugs into my laptop gets very hot. I've had the laptop for about two years and this has never happened before. It got so bad that the yellow plastic on the tip basically melted/burnt. At first I thought that there was something wrong with the adapter so I used my spare (same exact kind of adapter) but the spare is also getting too hot.
My laptop is otherwise fine. It hasn't shut down from being hot but it does get kinda warm sometimes. However, that darn adapter tip gets way too hot.
(( The adapter itself (the box part) doesn't get hot. It's fine. ))
Does anyone know what's going on with my laptop and how to fix it?
Thanks.

i'll just suggest this until someone else actually knows whats wrong, but i'd guess something is wrong with the battery. maybe the battery isn't accepting all of the voltage of the charger and the extra voltage is being let off as heat? or theres a short in the connection on the computer. if you happen to have a spare batter lying around you could try it and make sure it's the plug in part.

If it's not the adapter then it's the connection on the motherboard, in which case unless you know how to solder, send it in for repair.

Are these adapters made for your laptop? Maybe its sending an incorrect amount of energy. In any case, I don't really know what you should do besides giving HP a call.
-
Both adapters were made for it. Well, the first one came with it and the spare is the exact same kind.
What exactly would I have to solder in order to fix it? Are there any websites you would suggest for it? Oh and around how much do you think they would charge if I took it in? -
The soldering recommendation was a joke - didn't think you would take that literally. You would need a replacement plug part anyway.
Hit up www.hp.com/support and give them a call. -
Lol, I really don't know much about laptop soooo... Yeah. I have a friend that might be able to look at it.
-
I wouldn't suggest that since HP probably won't help you if your friend opens up your laptop to try and fix it.
-
yeah just send it to hp, that way you will get a guaranteed fix
(you especially want to be careful when dealing with power issues)
Tip of AC adapter too hot.
