Hi guys
I'm a refugee from the Acer forums paying a quick visit and looking for some advice.
I've been asked to upgrade the memory and cpu on an AMD S1 socketed Pavilion DV6600.
The memory is very simple to spec and change, but I was wondering if there are any tricks to getting access to the cpu socket.
Any guidance would be very welcome, with or without photos.![]()
Thanks in anticipation.

Be careful about chip upgrades. These machines typically don't have voltage adjustments available in the bios so you need to make sure the CPU voltages match if you're going to swap processors. You'll need to check the AMD specs for different variants and stepping numbers.

Hp has both videos demonstrating the disassembly of the systems as ell as pdf service manul which might be useful since accessing the cpu requires a near complete disassembly of the system.

As far as the cpu upgrade is concerned, the dv6600 is one of the newer models in the dv6000z(aka dv6500z) series, so any 65nm Turion TL series should be an easy install. Just make sure you have the latest BIOS before dismantling the system. -
Thanks, that's very helpful.
I have a TL68 which is replacing a TL58 (which will be replacing a single core Turion in another S1 based laptop). I believe this is almost identical, if a little faster!
I know the TDP is 35W rather than 31W but as the system has integrated graphics I think the extra heat shouldn't be an issue.
Tips on changing cpu on S1 based DV6600
