I recently bought and returned a Compaq Presario V2000 (non-BrightView). I had some problem with resoltuion and dead pixels. Turned out, the resolution probalem was partly to blame to Windows XP "Cleartype".

Anyways, since I'm planning to go for a new one, should I get a BrightView now? I mostly use my laptop inside my room, mostly in the evenings. The only light source in my room is a 130W tall floor lamp. I do mostly browsing, e-mail, MATLAB coding and typing reports etc. for projects (word processing).

Do you think I should go for BrightView?

Is there actually any difference in the screen itself? Or is it just the coating on the screen?

I'm not doubting that BrightView makes a difference....I know it does, firsthand. I'm just curious as to what it does.

I've seen it now and I think it really does make it nicer. I'd say go to Best Buy or some other electronics store and see for yourself whether or not you think it's worth it.

I did not go for the brightview.
Too much reflective for normal computing.
If you are into movies,go 4 it.

I would definatly go for it. The brightview screens are quite reflective, but not as noticeable as in the store. The computer stores like Bestbuy use certain type of lighting creating a lot of glare. Besides, you can tilt the screen a little to ward off the glare. The Brightview is well worth it.

I have a 14" screen on my old HP laptop, and was going to get a 15.4" brightview on a new HP. I bought the zv5410, and yes, the color was very dramatic, but it seemed to make the screen less comfortable to stare at for me. I also have a light in the room behind where my laptop sits, and the reflection of that light off the screen would have necessitated a lot of rearrangement to my work area to counter it. As a result, I returned it, and am going to order a non-bright view one. I think this might be a personal choice situation...the reflective coating simply did not work with my lighting set up! Think about how you use your laptop before you go for it.

I just ordered the compaq presario x6000.

    Specs::

    Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
    Intel(R) Pentium(R)4 processor 560 w/HT Technology
    17.0" WXGA+ Wide Viewing (1440x900)
    2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM, 400MHz (2x1024MB)
60 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
    8X DVD +/- RW/R & CD-RW Combo
    256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600
    54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM

I did not op for the "brightview" screen because a friend of mine bought the zd8000 with the "brightview" screen a few months ago. He has no regrets. However the little bit of reflection or glare he gets when he plays games or builds sites only bothers him a little. I personally do not like the little bit of reflection or glare he gets even in the dark area he keeps the laptop. If the slightest bit of glare is a problem for you the high gloss "brightview" screens will annoy you over time. When cleaning a high gloss "brightview" screen you really need to use caution just like any other lcd screen. However, you have to keep in mind you will be now careing for a "high gloss" screen and you will have to use even "greater" caution when cleaning it because you will notice every little streak or scratch if you make a mistake. They really stand out on that type of screen. I also found that some of the colors on these screens were somtimes in accurate and saturated but yet crisp. Not just on his but the ones I played with in circuit city as well.
