I've been browsing the "customize your laptop" topics for quite a while. What I'm curious about is, why there's no HP Compaq's with stickers or custom paint job (not to mention laser engraving) ? I mean, I know that these laptops are "supposedly" business-type, but it doesn't mean that there are no people like me that bought Compaq, because they liked it![]()

I think that the people interested in visual appeal go for the Pavilions, as they are obviously meant to sell for the looks.

To which HP Compaq are you referring? The consumer line is usually made up of units with limited options for an economy benefit. Offering fancy personalization or laser engraving would defeat the purpose of the segment.
As for the business variety of HP Compaq, this is a whole different beast aimed at professional use. The "cool, look at me" factor is not really a priority in those builds, as they are more concerned with build quality rather than aesthetics...... -
I think the "verve" or "radiance" or whatever design comes in the way when you try to customize your notebook. I am guessing people don't want to mess that up.
I was going to get my notebook a laser engraving, but after seeing the design, I didn't want to so much anymore. -
The reason people don't do visual mods to HP Compaq Business notebooks is the same reason people don't do visual mods to ThinkPads: They either don't care about a notebook's looks or they prefer a notebook that is clean, understated, and professional-looking. HP Compaq business purposely lack any sort of flashiness, and the people who buy them typically want that lack of flashiness.
With that said, I do think a carbon-fiber mod would look very cool on an HP Compaq business notebook. I have considered off-and-on doing just that to my nw8440. After all, I see all kinds of people at my school plaster stickers all over their notebooks (everyone in my graduating class has the same notebook), so you could say that there are quite a few HP Compaqs with stickers (here on my campus at least). -
Did it (10 chars)!

^^NICE!! Did you just purchase a skin through HP Skinit? The design seems to work very well with the charcoal gray color.

The only problem is unlike the Dell skins, they do not cut any hole to accomodate the HP logo, so I had to do it myself or else the skin will end up with bubbles if applied over the bulging logo. -
pretty sweet for 30$
