I'm looking for a new laptop. I'm a gammer and a programmer, so I'm looking for something like 3+Ghz w/ HT, 1GB, 128mb high end video card, etc. And preferably something light weight.

I've had bad experiences with Compaq PCs, so I'm not really interested in a Compaq. I've seem a lot of good comments about various HP models in this forum. HP seems to have the best price, but I don't know how reliable they are.

    Any info is appreciated.
    TIA.

Well I have to tell you, light weight is just not going to happen if thats what you want. All that power wille casue it to be a heavy machine, only if you give up power will it get lighter. You really don't need a 3+GHz machine for any games right now, I think anything over 2GHz no HT will be fine for high end games long as you have a good video card. Just as an example (not a great one) look at my computer stats below, mine runs Unreal 2004 turned all the way up with (1280 X 1024) screen size set, it runs smooth no problems. I can also run far cray but that I must use the medium settings. My proccesor is very powerful though, its my GPU holding me back. If you want a great gaming notebook and don't mind the wait look at the Dell XPS around 9.5 pounds. The HP 7000 series will probably be a good machine too but very large!

one thing though, Compaq has been bought out by HP and now the notebooks are basically identical except for casing. So I would say its safe to look at them again.

personally along with several others, I believe that HPs recent record is better than Dells with less complaints and problems. As for the machines I think HP has a better bang-for-your-buck in general and right behind or tied sometimes would be eMachines 6805 and 6809
