If you buy before Vista is released, you will atleast have the opportunity to get a clean Vista disc + the stock XP. If you wait around for Vista then, your only choice would be the stock Vista installation with all the bloatware. Ofcourse there might be different possibly better rebates, but thats the risk you take anytime you buy any computer.

In any case you will be within the costco return window or HP's if you buy from HP.com, so if you need the laptop within the next few weeks, IMO why wait?

I didn't.... I bought tonight. I liked the idea of having a choice between XP and the new Vista when it is released.....

    Thanks for the input.

When I was considering buying back on 14th or waiting for Vista to come out, I read this similar advice in another post, it may have been you, and thought it made hell of a sense. I ordered it and just received my dv9000t. Good advice, (will) have best of both worlds. :)

my fear would be that upgrading from xp to vista will not be 100% clean as one would expect. So I would think if your going to go with Vista wait till it comes preloaded that way there is no residual side effects from having both systems on at one point during the upgrade and such. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Regarding the upgrade to Vista, the GetReady analysis from MicrobeSoft web site told me to "clean install" Vista, not to upgrade it. It told me I'll get the Business edition. I have an nc8430.
