I did my annual cleaning of my Envy 15 today and long story short when I put it back together my trackpad doesn't work anymore.

I went back and checked, double checked, triple checked my wires and they were all in place firmly.

Here's a picture of everything I've connected from the keyboard back to the motherboard.

    Any ideas?

If you're positive its not a hardware related issue then try to run a live cd of ubuntu or any linux distro and see if it recognizes the trackpad. If it doesn't recognize it then its def a hardware issue e.g. broken trackpad cable. If it does recognize it then its most likely a windows issue. Try reinstalling the driver then.

I'll try reinistalling the drive since I'm not familiar with ubuntu. I'm not sure if it makes any difference but before I took the laptop apart I had disabled the trackpad since I mainly use a house.

It's very easy to use ubuntu. You can use UNetbootin - Homepage and Downloads to download and install a live "cd" to a usb and boot from the usb or just download the live cd and burn it to a disk. You don't need to do anything other then move the mouse once the OS loads. If the mouse moves then there's nothing physically wrong with the laptop.

But try to reinstall the drivers first since thats the easiest to do.

So I tried both the drivers and ubuntu and still the trackpad refuses to work -__-" I'm still a little reluctant to believe it has become a hardware issue but does anyone else have any ideas? I'm soooo sure I didn't break any of the traces since I went over and didn't see any damage.

Did you fold the ribbon cable in any way?

You might have cracked the metal traces within...

Oh, and check to see if the cable's attached correctly on both ends

Hmm that got me thinking, does it matter if i put it in the wrong way? Like upsidedown so the traces are backwards.

I'll definitely crack this baby open again and take another look.

It matters on the connection. I think the trackpad one has a lock type connection so only 1 side of the female will have pins and if you put it in upside down it will not work. If its a pressure fit type then both sides will have pins so it won't matter if you put it in backwards.

Check the connection to see if you ripped one of the tracers. Its very easy to do.

Yeah, the contacts on the end of the ribbon are incredibly easy to peel off, I almost broke my usb/sound board cable that way. Good thing the actual contact didn't rip off, so I just folded it back down with a tiny drop of glue underneath.
