I have a compaq armada e500. The hard drive went south and I need a new one. The model is MK2016GAP. THe key is the drive also needs to have the following on it; HDD2154F or HDD2154L. Compaq loads some firmware in the upper memory that needs to be there for the system to recognize it. At least that is what I was told at Toshiba.

I just bought a replacment HD for my pavillion. Installed it and it was recoginzed by the PC.

Not sure if that is correct what you were told.

Do a search online for a replacement for your system i.e.

Here's some info from HP / Compaq http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10312_na/10312_na.html

This place here sells HD that should work with your system. Look what models they have and then search and see if you can find it somewhere cheaper. http://www.bixnet.com/are5ser1.html

There are plenty companies out there that sell drives for your PC.
