It was fine till yestersay, but now mute button doesnt turn red on touching although it does mute the sound. Volume up/down buttons do bring up the black box with volume bars in it, but they dont change volume, and I dont get the 'tick' sound when i touch the volume buttons now. Media buttons do work under media player, and DVD button still launches QP DVD, but QP button doesnt do anything. Also, moving the volume slider in volum-baloon, that we get upon clicking volume icon in tray bar, doesn't make the 'ting' sound anymore. I restarted twice, but no use.
I m thinking of doing system restore, but last restore point is 5 days old when i installed windoes update. If I do a system restore, would it uninstall any programs I installed after the restore-point creation and delete any files I copies or created since then???
    Please help!!!!!!!

Update: now suddenly volume mute is turning red and volume buttons are changing volume, but still no 'tick' sound...and blue-lit QP icon button is not launching QP... still no 'ting' sound for volume slider... help somebody!!!

Doing a system recovery should be a last resort to fixing a problem, not the first suggestion you tell someone. Try reinstalling the drivers for the touch bar, that might work. Not every problem is the same and it doesn't take long to try a few some things that could fix the problem.

Where do I find the drivers?? I tried looking in SWSETUP folder but didnt find anything there.

Also, a new thing I noticed today. Whenever I used to plug-in or pull-out a headphone in either of the sound jacks, I used to get the message saying something like you have plugged-in or plugged out a device or something like that.. but I dont get that message anymore. Infact when I plugged in my headphones, I still was getting sound thru speakers. It didnt even recognize my headphones. I had to do a restart to get sound thru headphones. All these weird things happened in last week or so... I dont remember, but probably there was an update for Realtek sound device from HP and I installed that. How do I check my HP update history??

Update: Installing the audio drivers again solved the above mentioned problem of not recognizing headphones. But others still persist.
