So it looks like Synaptics has added gesture support for their touchpads with just a software update. http://www.synaptics.com/sites/default/files/touchpad_gestures_pb.pdf
The website says the software is backwards compatible with computers purchased in the last year or so.
I just got my HDX18t a week ago and can't seem to get it to work. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I thought multitouch was hardware dependent... Meaning your touch pad must be able to recognize two fingers on the pad at once...
Multi-touch trackpad works on the DV3z... WHat synaptics driver version are you using? also what is the name of the touchpad hardware in device manager?
Maybe you have older hardware?? -
What hardware version is in the dv3z? I have 6.5 on my dv5t. Multi touch would be interesting.
-
would it work on a compaq cq50 i purchased it in december
-
This is really intriguing, but I don't want to give up the current customizable options that Synaptics already provides in its Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad (the internal mouse/touchpad that comes standard on HP Pavillions). Does anyone know if the new Gestures and MultiTouch features are in addition to what is already offered, or does the touchpad come with a different set of options?

damm i have the alps pad on my dv2500. i downloaded some dell studio alps drivers and got similar options, but my zoom isn't by pinching its by scrolling on the left side, and i cant flick.
-
I believe they are additional features.
-
I have a 3 week old Synaptics Touchpad
Driver - 11.2.0.0
The most up to date driver on their site is 11.1.8.0 - which is lower than mine?
Per synaptics quote
"These gestures are available now and can be enabled with a quick update to the OEM-included software. Availability: These new enhanced gesture options are available now on Synaptics TouchPads for PC notebook and keyboard devices."
Can't find anything else. -
windows update has 11.2.4 available and laptopvideo2go forums has 11.2.15 neither of which support this gesture stuff.
-
I believe from some of the information I have read, we may need HP to give us the driver, that Synaptics doesn't offer that feature directly. Some people have had success hacking the drive to open up the features. Haven't found anything for HP's yet.

I've tried it on my 2 year old tx1000 and it works. These drivers are packaged with some versions of linux and I've got "Chiral motion" and two finger all direction scrolling working. People say "momentum" works too.
-
How did you get this done?
-
This thread shows how to get Chiral motion as well as two finger all direction scrolling. It works on Ubuntu 8.04 but 8.10 is a little different. There are a lot more options out there other than these two but I find them the most useful.
This website has the full list of options. -
does this only work in Ubuntu?

Here's one thing that bugs me about my new EliteBook 8530w: the touchpad has multi-finger detection disabled at the firmware level! Even an old Athlon XP laptop I have around here can do at least basic multi-finger detection... but a new one can't? In fact, I think there's even a P3 laptop around here that can do two- and three-finger detection -- and yet the new one only ever reports one finger! That sucks!
-
Someone's gonna figure out a way around this. It's getting too much attention now. Synaptics seems to want to push this.
-
None of the Elitebook touchpads support multitouch, don't know where you got the firmware level info from though. It seems like not all Synaptics touchpads support multitouch, some just don't have the hardware capability to detect more than one finger touching.

laptopvideo2go is hosting the new 12.1 drivers for the touchpad. The news post says these are for HP.
