Hi all...I need some help here.
I called today, and I will be sending my non-SB dbv6 back next week. And from the sounds of things, I will not be able to use my $500 of coupon I used on 1/1/10. However....after speaking to my GF...she told me something I wasn't expecting. I was explaining the price difference/value between the new 6 and the new 7...and she said...if you really want the touchscreen...get it. You use your computer a lot, so it may be worth it. So with that said....I'm now giving serious thought to a new dv6 with SB. But I have a couple of questions....
#1 - What speed is the memory on the new quads? I have 8gbs of RAM on my current model at 1066. I'm looking at RAM on Newegg...and I'm wondering if I should be looking at 1333....and will I have to buy two sticks?

#2 - Does anyone have any experience with touchscreen monitors....especially with a touchscreen laptop? I'm looking at the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 which has pretty good reviews.

    Thank!

PS. It looks like the $400 of coupon ends tomorrow...so I'm not sure if I should buy one tonight or wait for another deal. Anyone know of any future sales?

In exact the same situation as you! Lol! :p

Well, to answer your questions, i had experienced the Hp's dv6 touchscreen ( not with SB ) at a store near me and the best thing about it, was the Edge to Edge Screen. The Fluidity on the screen doesn't match that of the mobile phones but it is not that bad either. ( I guess that depends on the Software! ) It has dual touch and i would definitely enjoy atleast scrolling and clicking on things on the screen while i would be using it on my lap. I don't understand how people don't find it useful. I mean, it's definitely worth the 150USD HP is charging for it.

The Memory speeds seems to be 1333Mhz, as they have it in Dv7. But not sure of it. [ Edit : Confirmed! Check this link, http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/ho/WF25a/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-4346311.html ] I'll be spending that extra 60USD to get 8Gb RAM from 6Gb, hope thats worth it.

For now, SB Dv6 is looking like a good deal to me except for that Screen resolution. But I can live with it. I can't blame HP, that resolution is standard with all 15" screens. Damn!
I know, i won't be getting the option of 2nd Hard Drive with Dv6, but i guess 640Gb at 7200RPM( I don't want to go with 1Tb just 'coz of 5400RPM ) won't let me down at any point in time till the end of the year at least.

    Dude....
    THANK YOU!!!!

I will place an order today!

It is cheaper to buy RAM from Newegg.com, but it might be nice to have matching sticks.

Next up....a touchscreen monitor for my desktop.

I am torn on the touchscreen as well.

Does it NEED to run through HPs special software for all touch-related tasks?

I would like the touchscreen for clicking on things, moving windows, etc. but am a little worried about being forced to use HP's bloatware for it.

I also would like to wait for the Envy 14 refresh but the Envy's currently don't have the touchscreen option. Also I would get the 120GB SSD for the pavillion but the Envys only SSD option is 256GB which is a bit overkill.

I'm not sure.... I hear that Windows 7 software has some touchscreen features available. I'm also surfing the web right now, and I'm not going through the HP touchsmart program.

Wow...the coupon already expired. I probably checked in on it once every 3 hours.

Basically, I said "screw it" at went to order both the 6 and 7.

This sucks....and the lack of answers does not bold well for me getting another HP after I return this one. Why is it so hard to get a simple answer on the cache between two hard-drives?

I tried this and failed. I installed old LG 15" touchscreen display drivers in my tc4400 and result was a disaster. Like using two mice at the same time, it just didn't work.

Win7 has lots of touch features. Too bad my tc4400 doesn't support multitouch, it would be nice :) I like writing notes directly on my OneNote, Win7 also has quite advanced OCR since it understands my handwriting.
