    Hi everyone,

I just bought a new pavilion notebook computer and while I love the performance, I noticed that the left and right buttons below the trackpad are not flush with each other. Specifically, the right click button is raised a little higher than the left. I know this sounds like a really minor issue, but you can definitely see they are not flush. Like I said, both buttons work fine and seem pretty sturdy so its more of a cosmetic complaint.

Anyway, I bought it at best buy 4 days ago. Do you think they would exchange it depsite the fact that there is technically nothing wrong with the hardware? Alternatively, is this something I can "fix" myself?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You could take it apart and see if it is something you can fix, but you can always try and return it to BestBuy and ask for an exchange.

Not flush with what? I have also noticed that both keys kinda go down of the sides. A picture of your would maybe be helpful (you know a picture is worth a 1000 words.)

Thanks for the responses. I'm at work right now so I'll try to take a picture later today and upload it. But I can say that if my trackpad/click buttons looked like yours do in your picture, I wouldn't have an issue. Just try an imagine your picture but with the right click button about a millimeter higher than the left click button.

mine is the same way, left buttong is slightly lower than the right. its so irritating..... the left button feels a little "loose" compared the right one, theres less resistance to push it down

Exactly how mine feels. Left loose, right tight. Wouldn't be surprised it they were made at the same factory or inspected by the same quality control dude.

I had a dv2700 series and the left button on the touchpad was higher than right and make a crunchy noise when pressed. Within a day it broke and a piece of loose plastic fell out.
It was not just a mm higher, it was nearly 3 mm higher from the start.
HP refunded my purchase cost for the notebook.

    Hi

Theres a Bluetooth cable beneath the touchpad. If HP didnt seat it properly when they built it, the cable will sit beneath the touchpad raise the keys. It happened to me when i pulled my dv2500 apart and put it back together.

I dont recommend you try fix it yourself as it requires removal of the top cover. You could void your warranty

I've had 2 dv9000 notebooks and they have the same trackpad, both were the same as yours, left and right click are not level and are loose. I think it's just cheap and flimsy like the rest of the keyboard. On both my notebooks the keyboard was not level and the keys would rattle and were loose. It bothered me also so I don't think you are being picky. My touchpad was also so uncomfortably hot I had to switch to an external mouse. I finally switched to Dell, amazing difference in build quality, very happy with my Vostro 1400.
