I was perusing through Google and found a site that discussed 2gb memories and mentioned Transcend. I went to the Transcend site and sure 'nuff they were selling a 2gb memory module. Since my dv2000z had 2 slots with 1gb each the max is only 2gb. I ordered one 2gb module to see if it'll work, I would then have 3gb total. If the module works I will order another 2gb to make it a total of 4gb. I will let you guys know if it works, my Vista Ultimate will be very happy if it does. BTW the price is $158 w/ shipping. I know memories were getting cheap but not that cheap!

Not bad, might want to check out Fry's deal - 2X2GB patriots for ~$250. See this thread for more info...

Cool, thxs for the heads up. Never heard of Patriot. Do they have a web site? I like Fry's, I could spend the whole day there and not buy a thing... just looking at doodads. are Patriot mem reliable?

Patriot have been around for quite a while. Personally I havent used them but they should be fairly reliable and I havent heard anything particularly bad about them in these forums. -
The memory module came yesterday and excitely installed it. Total installed memory on the bios is 30xx. Vista loads and runs a little bit faster. According to HP specs the total memories that can be installed is 4gb, 2x 2gb sticks (two banks). I will wait awhile before I order the other 2gb. Availabe memory after Vista Ultimate loads is a little over 2gb. I wonder if I can disable the paging file for now so it can work directly from memory instead of writing to disk. Thing to do things to do. Overall the performace has improved a bit. Hopefully the laptop will run cooler now since the CPU doesn't have to work as extensively in managing memory. It's true, Vista Ultimate does run better with more RAM!

But I think I must warn you a 32-bit edition of Windows cannot use more than 3.2GB of the memory. To be able to use the rest of the memory, you should install the 64-bit version of windows which has it's own problems [like drivers].

You can't really disable the paging file, the system doesn't really work that way. Do some googling about it. You can get deep into the details of how the virtual memory system works.
In a nutshell, there's lots of stuff that is loaded into memory, but then swapped out to disk. It's swapped out because you don't need it right now, and actually might never need it. It's better to keep that stuff available but not in RAM. -
Thanks for the heads up -
I actually set my paging file to 1gb max/min even with previous flavors of Windows. It was recommend to have a paging file that's 2 1/2 times the size of your RAM but with improved memory management with Vista I don't know if that's true now. I did install Vx64 before but like everyone else is finding out not too many drivers are available as yet. I was surprised that there was a x64 IE7 included. Anyways, 3gb is fine for now.

Patriot makes good, reliable RAM. I use a 2x1GB set of Patriots for my desktop and are used more for overclocking and gamers all around. Although I have never used Patriot for notebooks, I do believe they make good memory regardless of desktop or notebook.

I been useing alot transcend ram Lately work we build lots of system is pretty good ram not good as other brand like corsair but it does work good
I got 2 x 2 in my laptop and and 2 gig my desktop no issues at all -

Check out the "hot RAM deals" thread. for a laptop, the ram does not really matter, as long as it meets the specs and has a lifetime warranty. There is no difference between "value" RAM and "enhanced super cool d00dz" ram, except the amount you will pay for it.
After you get it, make sure you run a memtest on it to make sure it is working. -
