Sorry if this has been posted countless times, I tried a search but didn't find anything. I just got my new dv7 6169nr, it came with a 500gb HDD but I want to put in a SSD too. How do I go about transferring everything from my HDD to a SSD. Do I use the HP recovery disk? And also, do I just place the new SSD in bay 1 to use as a primary and move the HDD to bay 2? Thanks.

Just clone your HDD and place that image on your newly installed SSD. Format your HDD once your SSD is functioning as intended in order to prevent redundancy with data etc.

Make sure your BIOS is set to boot from the SSD.

The physical placement of the drives does not effect Primary/Slave. It is all in the configuration of your drives.

Personally, I'd use the SSD as the primary, boot drive; with OS and applications installed on it.

The HDD would simply be used to hold data.
