I've tried installing the 11.6 Software Suite for the 6770m but it has failed on multiple attempts due to an error message. There's a screenshot of the error ( http://i52.tinypic.com/2jfnhiu.png). While I can't install the suite, I can install the Catalyst Control Center, but when I open it up, it still says 11.5 and in Device Manager, the driver version shows up as 8.830.6.2000.

While I know that upgrading to 11.6 is of little importance, I would like to know why my laptop isn't installing the software.

OK...let's try to do it the way a lot of us have adopted updating drivers on the Envy. Now...you have "switchable graphics" which can be effected if done wrong.

    1. Go back...reinstall the last set of HP drivers...make sure all is good including CCC. You may want to uninstall what you currently have using driver sweeper, to make sure no corruption remains

    Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper 3.1.0

    2. Now, get the mobility 11.6 Catalyst drivers here:

    AMD Catalyst 11.6 WHQL (8.861 May 24) - Download & Discussion - Guru3D.com Forums

You want the 11.6 mobility 64 Bit.

    3. Install the 11.6 mobility and choose "Custom" install. During the custom, you will be given choices...opt to install everything EXCEPT CCC. Keep the Catalyst Control Center from the HP drivers and you will keep switchable graphics in tact.

Once done...reboot...right click on your desktop and choose "Screen Resolution" ... "Advanced Settings" You should see the Radeon HD 6770 there...choose properties and driver and you should see the new drivers. Also...your CCC should still work and you can verify the driver version there as well...

Try it...It works on the Envy all the time. CCC causes a lot of issues.

Also, note, this may cause some instability with your intel driver since they are now desynced after this update.

Since you have a 6100 series with the dynamic switching, it is highly recommended to get the updated CCC as often as possible until they finally separate the game profile for mobility.

    ------

The reason why you can't install cause AMD doesn't support models who have graphic switching with Intel Chipset for legal reason. The installer in both the full and web version doesn't have the intel driver package.
The web installer is only offered in the AMD mobility download is to reduce headache and problems for those who tries to install it on unsupported models.

You're not going to get any direct support from AMD for your model. You have to get it from your OEM.

This might change in end of this year when AMD implements the same method how Nvidia does in their installer and support.
