F.23 bios will not install properly. my machine hangs when I try to install it. I currently have F.13 installed. any solutions?

I downloaded the sp file and executed it. it comes up with the insyde utility and I run it. it starts to initialize, then my mouse freezes and a message comes up saying "do you want to continue, dont shut off power...." I cant click ok because windows froze and neither trackpad or external mouse responds. also, the caps lock key light turns on and fan goes full throttle? is there a work around for it?

I am working on a clean build of win 7 pro 64bit.

Same exact problem with me, and some others as well. There is a workaround somewhere in the owner's thread.

It ticks me off that it doesn't work to begin with.

The F.23 BIOS installer hangs on the confirmation screen and requires removal of the battery before the system can be restarted. Here's one way to upgrade to F.23. There's another method here from zman420.

I was able to upgrade to F.23 by using the installer for the F.13 BIOS, as follows:

    1. Create a folder C:\SwSetup\SP50247 for the F.13 installer.
    2. Create a folder C:\SwSetup\SP51091 for the F.23 installer.
    3. Download the F.13 installer to C:\SwSetup\SP50247.
    4. Download the F.23 installer to C:\SwSetup\SP51091.
    5. Right-click sp50247.exe>7-Zip>Extract Here
    6. Right-click sp51091.exe>7-Zip>Extract Here
    7. Rename C:\SwSetup\ SP50247\01436.bin to 01436.bin.old
    8. Copy C:\SwSetup\ SP51091\01436.bin to C:\SwSetup\ SP50247.
    9. Right-click C:\SwSetup\ SP50247\InsydeFlashx64.exe>Run as administrator.
    10. Press Enter when asked about updating BIOS.
    11. The computer will re-boot. You'll need to reapply any changes you made to your BIOS settings, if any, as they get reset to defaults with a new BIOS install.

I used 7-Zip to extract the files. There are other utilities out there that do the same thing.

So far my machine is running okay on F.23 although the System Recovery disks I created still don't work and haven't worked since the F.06 BIOS version.

Don't you need the HP_TOOLS partition to use the BIOS update?

This method does not require the HP_TOOLS partition to perform a BIOS update (at least for F.23). I deleted my HP_TOOLS partition when I did a clean install and have been able to update the BIOS successfully.

The weird thing is I did a clean Windows installation but left all the partitions intact and I still have to go through these hoops to update the BIOS. I don't see how the HP_TOOLS partition helps anything for those that did a clean install.

    Belltown,

How come you are running the InsydeFlashx64 from the F13 folder instead of the F23 one??
It warns me that my current ver is F13 and that I'll be updating to F13

the flasher in f23 locks up the laptop, so what he's doing is running the old flasher from f13 with the new firmware binary.

i believe thats what most people had to do. i mean, i see no reason why you couldn't try f23 without changing anything but you'll probably run into the issue in the OP.

the i7 i returned came with f.06, it upgraded to f.23 with no issues using HP default installer.

The i5 I got this week already came with f.23 so I didnt have to do it.
