    Trouble with dv6000 recovery

    I have a Pavilion dv6000 and after implementing destructive recovery, I got a BSOD immediately upon loading Windows after the recovery was finished:

    Stop: 0x0000007B (0xF889C524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

    I cloned the hard drive to a larger hard drive, executed recovery from the larger hard drive, and I was able to replicate the BSOD.

    I thought the hard drive had gone bad at the recovery partition.

    I extracted the original hard drive, and hooked it up as an external device to a Dell laptop. I accessed the executable to burn recovery media, and made three DVDs.

    I popped in the first DVD and a third hard drive, but got this error message when I wanted to boot from the recovery media:

    "These PC recovery discs do NOT support this PC model. Press any key to continue"

    Pressing any key reboots the laptop.

    I installed XP with a generic OEM disk to the third hard drive. There were several drivers missing. I tried to install drivers for the video and the WiFi card. Both executables didn't behave as expected - the video driver installation program said it failed to find either suitable drivers or suitable hardware. The WiFi driver installation program failed to take the user through the installation process - it would start up by extracting the files, and there was no reaction since that point.

    I replicated the same results using another generic OEM disk for Windows XP (both were for MCE).

    BIOS tells me this about my laptop:

    HP Pavilion dv6000
    RG365UA#ABA

    System Board ID 30BB

    BIOS F.29

    I tried to run the BIOS update at HP's site but it failed to execute. My dv6000 has an Intel CPU, and this BIOS update apparently targeted AMD CPUs.

    I also ran the hard drive test from within BIOS on the original hard drive. The Quick test passed. The Comprehensive test passed. The SMART test passed.

    I'm now starting to believe the BIOS has been corrupted. I am also considering the idea that this laptop's systemboard came from a different (model?) laptop.

    I'm reluctant to call HP and buy a set of recovery media. I believe I'll replicate the same error message: "These PC recovery discs do NOT support this PC model. Press any key to continue".

    What else should I consider if I want to create a fully functioning dv6000?

    Pretty sure the discs from HP are original OS. I can't know for sure until a few days, when I receive mine.

    A dv6000 is HP's Pavilion model from three or four years ago (launched w/Vista). Use the p/n on the bottom of the case to locate the specific page you need for drivers/bios on HP's site. You could also just purchase a set of recovery disks using your units serial number and desired OS as well for around $20.00USD.
