Just wondering if anyone knows how I'd be able to use the webcam for things outside of skype? Namely, i'm trying to use it in Processing. With my macbook, processing was able to use it off the bat - worked out the mac had a webcam and used it. with the Envy, no such luck. just gives me a statement about no webcam being found and errors the sketch out.

Do I have to turn it 'on' or something?

You need to install HP Mediasmart and "activate" the webcam is.

yeap. Assuming you did a clean install, lol. If not, then you should be able to find it under the start button, going to HP folder and clicking on HP Mediasmart/Web Cam or something like that.

    KJ

Hmm, cheers for this, but doesn't fix it. I just want to be able to access the camera outside of HP's mediasmart things.

even with it on, i'm getting this - java.lang.RuntimeException: No capture could be found, or the VDIG is not installed correctly.

and even then, as mediasmart is running, i'm unsure that it would pass the feed to two different programs at the same time.

ah, the things I used to take for granted in OSX...

hmm that's odd. I haven't had an issue using my webcam with any app. I use it regularly with skype, google video chat, and my school's online class webapp.

Do you see HP WebCam installed properly in device manager under imaging devices?

Yup, it's there, and mediasmart works. I read up a bit more and I need a VDIG driver in order for this to work. To Google!

    Cheers again!
