    Hi everyone,

I am trying to decide between 3 notebooks. HP Pavillion DV 2500t with broadband, dv 6500t and 6500 special edition. I read in the forum that dv6500 has some heat issues and webcam problems. Those of you using dv2500 and 6500 special edition did you guys encounter such problems? Can you please shed some light on the issues? Also besides the screen size and graphics card what other main differences are there? Thanks for all you help...

two months old and still going strong. No major heat issues, the only time that I notice a significant amount of heat is when i'm running a 3d Building design software called Revit 2008. Other than that it's fine. I mean what laptop doesn't get a little warm when running at full speed. I have the webcam and it has been flawless. I take an online speech class for college and I have to use my webcam for recording myself doing speeches. My only regret is forgetting to click on the box for a free upgrade to a 120gb. Also I would purchase a customized laptop over a mass-produced brick one bought in a brick and mortar store. As a hand built laptop is better than that.

Ive been using my 6000t series 11 months now, no issues in terms of heat. It does get warm, I have been looking for a cooling fan, but the heat has NEVER affected anything in terms of performance. This is the best laptop I have owned, and I own a macbook, a Fujitsu, and a Dell. I too am thinking about getting a DV2500T for traveling because I have been so happy with the HP series.

Don't get the special edition. Its a waste of money. Its exactly like the 6500t except in white. Unless you want to pay a premium for a white notebook its not worth the extra $100 or so.

Get the dv2600 special edition.. so slick & sexy.

dv2000 series heats up easier than dv6000 series from what ive been hearing. Mine only heats up when im using heavy applications/gaming overtime, i guess its normal for any computer to heat it up. Other than that its luke warm

I would recommend the dv6500 non special edition. Its cheaper than the special one and there is no difference between them other than color.
    cheers,
    Uxion- from my iphone :)

What reasons were you limiting yourself to the 2500 and 6500? Budget, screen size? We could help better...

I have the dv6500t... would you consider the 9500 series? Performance-wise the dv6500t is excellent for a budget computer and no heat issues, however I really think there are some major design flaws that are not applicable to the 9500...
    - key placement (home, pg up, pg dn, end)
    - the touchpad is not centered with the keyboard (you can't type without constantly hitting the touchpad... the laptop requires use of a mouse)
    - quick play buttons are too easy to activate during full screen games or eBay sniping

The dv9500z on the deals page is pretty friggen cheap!

I have the DV6500t and i love it.
I get the 2.2ghz core 2 duo SantaRosa and its great for multitasking and gaming if you choose the nvidia card option. Its amazing the expansion to TV through svideo or HDMI.

You will need some time to adapt it to the short travelling that the keyboard has, and to adapt it to the surface of the touchpad. Only these 2 points are cons in the notebook.

The laptop doesnt get really warm, and its really quiet.
The only part that you feel a little warm is the left touchpad zone because that is the location of the hard disk and spin at 5400 RPM!!!
I think the dv2500 is warmer than dv6500 for the size, in the same way, i think the dv6500 is warmer than dv9500. Just because the size for disipation.

Its true that the webcam has some little problem with hp drivers. But you can fix this really easy with some Acer driver (acer crystal eye view, i guess). Search about it in this forums through "ho webcam".

The big issue comes from the DVD recovery system or the Partition recovery system. If you can: DO NOT BUY THAT DVD, and if you bought it: DONT EVER USE IT!!.
The dvd has a different firmware than the laptop, so if you use it you will crash the system and need a clean Vista installation. Search about it through "Hp recovery system" in the forums.

Well, I have a dv2500t (2 months old) and I can say that I've been happy so far. With the nvidia gfx, it does run on the warm side but honestly its not bad at all. I think there are a few advantages with the 2500t such as more efficient use of space, smaller, lighter, less keyboard flex than the 6XXX series. Of course, you do have more heat, but otherwise, I really see no reason to not get the 2500.
