    I have a HP dv9700t.

A couple days ago my notebook screen went blank, but operated normally after rebooting. The trouble is that I perceive a significant drop in fan noise, but I have no evidence that anything is wrong other than this perception, as the fan that is visible from the bottom is still working. I've attempted to check with HP Health Check and HP Health and Support, but neither identified any issues (when they didn't crash). Is there a means of checking if everything is still being cooled properly without violating warranty.

You can try a couple 3rd party Temp monitors (a few freeware ones below):

    CPU:
    SpeedFan
    RMClock
    HWMonitor

    GPU:
    RivaTuner
    ATI Tool

    ;) Or you could just smell it :p :p :p :p
