First off I am sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been talked about in another thread. I cannot seem to find a search function, so please bear with me! I have a Compaq Turion notebook and the HD went out. It is still under warranty and was sent off to be replaced. I picked it up this morning (Best Buy)
and was told all I needed to do was run the restore CD. Well.. no. That doesn't work. I *try* to use it, and it appears to install, even after an error message, it says it's installed and reboot. Upon rebooting however, I get the message "bootfile exe not found". Got tired of futzing around with it for a couple hours and took it all back to BestBuy thinking it was something stupid I was doing or not doing, and they tell me I cannot use the original restore disc because it's *not really the full windows vista program* or some such garbage. So why does it work when I reformat the HD when there's a problem? I have assumed for the past 17 years of computing experience that was actually wiping the drive and reinstalling everything... now they say it's not? Am I going to have to mess with HP/Compaq about this?

You lost me in the last few sentences.
Take everything back to Best Buy and tell them to install the operating system. Your warranty guarantees you a useable computer, not a hard shell.
Turion HD replaced cannot get restore to work
