I received my Turion ML37 (2GHz, 1MB L2 cache) CPU today from mwave.com. I swapped it in, hit the power button, drive spun up and...

    Nothing. Big blank nothing. Crap.

So, as of BIOS F.35 the AMD Turion CPUs are not supported in the zv5000z/R3000z. I swapped my Mobile-class Athlon 64 3200+ back in (see my other thread in this forum about that... well, mostly in the Upgrades and Accessories forum at r3000forums.com that I moderate). The one bit of good news is that the heatsink fins had surprisingly little dust in them despite several months of use, very much unlike when I swapped out the original DTR-class chip. Not having the fan run all the time did wonders.

I'm going to email HP support, asking them to forward my message to whoever maintains the BIOS (and mention the broken PowerNOW! support under Linux), but I'm not expecting much. Now, what am I going to do with this ML37...

That sucks because I was thinking about doing the same exact thing. A Turion in the zv5000z would have meant over 5 hours of battery life.

Well, mwave.com was cool about giving me a full refund for the ML37. I was worried that I'd get stuck with a 15% restocking fee. So, points for MWave. Now I'll just have to resist rolling that money towards an Athlon 64 X2 CPU/motherboard combo when the refund arrives  :D.
