    Hi

My HP nc6400 have a turn off problem. I can put it in the standby mode but I can't turn it off. After I take away the battery (the put it back) and turn it on again, it works perfectly. I wonder what would be the potential problems.

I tried to run the msconfig to fix the problem but it never works.

    Thanks for your help.

Are you trying to turn off the computer with the power button? You can set the power button's function to shut off the computer in various states via the Power Option panel in Control Panel.

What happens if you shut down the computer through the Start Menu, Turn Off Computer, Shutdown.

What OS are you running XP or Vista?

What method are you using to try and shut the laptop down?

    Hi Guys

I tried to turn off my laptop from the start menu. Then the laptop will just stop responding. My OS is XP. My problem has occurred after I installed a driver for my router, .NET 2.0, and a driver for my lexmark printer. So I tried to uninstall all these software but the turn off problem is still here.

    Thanks for your further advice.

Try running Scandisk over your C: drive with only the fix file system errors.

One other method you could try is doing an XP system restore to an earlier restore point. This isn't always the best route to go through, because the restore point feature isn't always the most dependable, but it is still an option.

    Hi

I already used the scandisk to check any errors. But it seems that there are no errors detected.

    Please help.

Did you try doing the XP System Restore to a time just before you did the driver installs? That's next.
