Is there a way to make the fn key work only if it is pressed at the same time as another key, rather than acting like a sticky key? (e.g. make pressing fn, then pressing b afterwards =/= pressing fn + b at the same time)

It's done in BIOS => Disable the option that says "Advance Key" (or something along that line)

i'm not talking about the "action keys" of f1-f12, that's already disabled because i need to use the f1-f12 keys. i'm talking about the fact that the keyboard remembers that you pressed the fn key (like caps lock), instead working only when you press it at the same time as another key (like the shift or alt keys)

try it out yourself, fn + b should turn the beats audio setting on or off, but that should ONLY work when i press them at the same time. however, if you press some thing like fn, then random letters like asdasad, then press b, it'll still act as if you pressed fn + b at the same time (it remembers that you pressed fn, like the sticky key function)

it's really annoying if you just touched the fn key by accident and all of a sudden your typing is interrupted, or worse when you are gaming and bringing up all the random function keys...

Oh I see what you mean now. That is pretty annoying. Sorry I have no idea how to fix it either, hopefully someone knows.

Did you ever find out how to disable this stupid functionality? I hate fn-b popping up when I didn't even mean to touch fn. All my other keyboards have ctrl key where the fn key is, so I hit it by accident a lot.

Does it do that for the space bar for the touchpad?

No, for some reason the fn+spacebar for touchpad light is an exception, but that's the behavior I want for all of them. Been trying to find a way to make it stop the fn,{key} and be fn+{key} like for the touchpad

yeah... the only way to avoid it is to avoid hitting the fn key by mistake. i'm much more used to the keyboard now and don't normally hit it accidentally anymore. minor annoyance still.

i have to say the worst experience was when i was playing dota and using autokey script for hotkeys when i first got the laptop, in which F12 was one of them... turns out i turned off my wireless instead of using a town portal...

Is it possible you've turned on "sticky keys"?

Type "ease of access" in the start menu and click the Ease of Access Center result. In the window that opens click "Make the Keyboard easier to use". Make sure "Turn on Sticky Keys" is unchecked.

While you're there you may want to check "Turn on Toggle Keys", which I find very useful. It make the computer beep when you hit the NumLock or Caps Lock keys. No more typing a sentence in all caps by accident!

if i'm referring to them as "sticky keys", wouldn't i have checked there already? =P

sadly that solution would be far too easy and logical.
