I know there is no set button to turn off the touchpad on the dv5000t, but is there any way to program a button to turn it off when pressed?

Yes, and thats through the Synaptics software.

    Start>Control Panel>Mouse

    Select Device Settings Tab

    Then click Disable

Not quite what you wanted, but yeah, you know...

Do you think it would be possible to make a shortcut button to do this? Because then if I do not have a mouse the next time I went on, I would be out of luck. =\
