I'm planning on downgrading from vista to xp on my dv6500t and I was wondering if I needed any of the HP drivers or software that originally came with the computer (such as the HP Wireless Assistant). Can i just install the basic drivers plus quickplay or do I need the HP wireless assistant to enable bluetooth and monitor my wireless network?

Also, do I lose any performance in my hardware by downgrading to XP? I know I will probably gain performance by downgrading because of the problems associated with vista, but will my software drivers be out of date or not function as well as the drivers for vista? I'm worried that I won't be able to update my drivers for my Nvidia gfx card because they no longer support Windows XP.

You'll find all the relevant drivers on HP's site. Download them all, burn to cd, and then go back to XP.

Just out of curiosity, why are you going back to XP?

I am wondering the same thing, as I personally love my Vista equipped 6500t :)

Vista takes up too many resources for my liking. I'm still considering sticking with it, but I already have a lower end Geforce 8400 card so I'm going to try and suck every inch of performance out of this machine. I'll probably go back to vista once SP1 and SP2 come out and more software/games become compatible with it.

Actually I do have 2GB of RAM and I never said that old hardware sucks. Windows XP is perfect and I've seen more than a few people on these boards downgrade to it because of the same reasons. I'm trying to get the highest performance out of my machine and if you think vista runs games at higher FPS than windows xp you are fooling yourself. I'm not saying anyting bad about vista. I actually like alot of things about it (which is why I haven't decided yet and will probably end up dual booting), I'd just rather use an OS that can improve upon my performance until all the bugs are out of vista.
