After slogging my way thru several clueless, outsourced HP CS reps, I finally reached a very good supervisor earlier today. He was aware of the typhoon delays (unlike the other reps), and he put me on hold while he spoke to another supervisor who deals directly w/the factory in Shanghai.
That supervisor called the Shanghai factory, relayed the info back to my guy, who told me that it looks like it will be at least five business days before anything moves out of Shanghai. He said to keep checking FedEx tracking to make sure.
He also said that FedEx physically has the package, but I questioned him on that, saying that if that was the case, shouldn't they have done an origin scan, but he felt pretty sure they have it.
I called FedEx to get their take on the situation. The rep I spoke to at "International Priority Distribution" said everything was shut down in Shanghai, i.e. nobody is at work, so they can't actually get any updates on who has the packages--FedEx or HP. She felt that, since there was no scan, HP still physically has the package. She said that, in huge orders such as this, the entire planeload is given one tracking number, and only when it ships do the individual boxes break out into their individual tracking scans--if I understood her correctly. It sounds pretty complicated. She said that FedEx China isn't letting anything move out, but that no one is actually at work, so updates are hard to come by. There is also the basic infrastructure problems of moving downed trees and power lines off the roadways after the rain has stopped, before anything can move.
MSN weather says Shanghai will have rain on and off till Monday.
Bottom line: keep checking FedEx tracking, but don't expect much before the end of next week.

My package left China this morning and arrived in Alaska this afternoon. Mine may have been at FedEx this whole time, but at least they are moving.
-
My Tracking number also says it's in Alaska, with delivery set for tuesday by 10:30 am.
-
same here. mine was in Alaska yesterday.Today it has arrived at INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA at 2AM.
Im from washington and yea it just went further away from my address.. -
Mines in Indiana as well, I guess the people who's notebooks have shipped caught a lucky break. That sucks that every one else may have to wait an extra 5 days.
-
For everyone i this thread, can you guys tell me when:
1.) You ordered
2.) What your est. ship date was
The reason I ask is because I ordered mine on the 12th, my EST. shipping date was the 20th, at night time on the 19th it said Item Shipped and provided me with a tracking number that doesn't show anything.
I was just wondering if I'm gonna be one of those that's gonna have to wait the extra 5 days, thanks a lot guys. -
I ordered mine September 11 4:30AM (before headin out to work)
Estimate Ship: September 20th but got a SHIPMENT email on SEPT 17 (10AM) -
If I wasn't completely clear in my OP, the FedEx rep said shipments from the HP factory are aggregated into huge lots, so the people who just received theirs may have had their orders in the lot ahead of yours and mine.
As of this writing, still no movement on my FedEx tracking page. Not sure of the time difference between West Coast USA and Shanghai, but I think it's still nighttime there. (Someone better at world geography can correct/enlighten me.)Maybe in the morning in Shanghai things will look better.
-
Doh, I'm done for, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to wait extra.
It's just weird that btnh ordered his just one day before me, and got his shipped out 2 days before, weird. -
I almost hesitate to mention this, but it occurred to me earlier. You guys let me know what you think...
If our systems were built a day or two before the hurricane--I mean typhoon--hit, and you were an employee in a factory in the town that was going to bear the brunt of the storm, would you be able to keep your mind on properly assembling the laptop in front of you on the bench, or might your mind be on other, somewhat more important things--like the safety of your family and property?
IOW, do you think the human element will come into play in the final build quality of our systems? -
Dude, I know what you mean, I get super paranoid about this kind of stuff too.
I could care less if they messed up installing drivers since I'm wiping the computer clean and installing a clean vista, but I just hope they installed the hardware right and there were no screwups.
My best advice is use EVERYTHING and do everything on the laptop to make sure you don't have any problems before that 30 day window.
If it makes you feel better, I think they made our laptops before the Typhoon even hit, mine went into production on like the 14th or 15th, and the typhoon I believe was on the 18th or 19th, so don't sweat it. -
Ok boys, I have my own update.
SO I called Fed Ex, and I spoke to a really knowledgeable representative named Robert (can't tell you how nice it is to speak to someone who speaks fluent english named Robert (no racist))
Anyways, he told me about the bad storm, and he said my package along with 40 other packages is being sent out tomorrow (or today in China's time, I was confused on that).
Anyways, long story short, we have International Express shipping and it should receive at our doorsteps on Tuesday the 25th, so that's not too bad.
This is for people who are in the same boat as me that ordered on the 12th or so, and don't have any information coming up on the screen when you go to Tracking.
If your package is already in the United States, you're lucky =) -
crap... I ordered mine on the 11th says it was supposed to ship out on the 20th got my tracking number on the 19th, and nothing on fedex. If u are right then i am guessing my package will be in that express group. The crappy thing is i wont be here, i have to drop my grandma at the airport, and fedex comes in the morning too.
-
I ordered mine on the 11th and got my tracking number on the 19th too, but according to fedex, it will be delivered 24th 10:30am. its in INDIANAPOLIS already. Too bad because the person who'll going to bring my laptop here in the Philippines will leave US tom - 21th.
-
Ordered mine on the 10th, got a message stating that the notebook was shipped on the 17th, FedEx tracking number was updated on the 19th. The package is in Indianapolis - it arrived in 2 AM. The bad thing is the estimated delivery is 24th. This really sucks for me.
Stupid typhoon, ruining everything. -
Yay, Laptops in Indy!!! I can just pick them up for you all!! (Indy's my hometown)
Just kidding
BTW the big FedEx regional hub is located in Indy @ the Indianapolis International Airport, in case you were wondering why they were in Indianapolis. -
illmatic8's update is music to my ears. I ordered mine on 12th and got my tracking on 19th. I am getting mine through an uncle in NJ since I live overseas, and he is supposed to leave on 3rd Oct.
-
May be seeing light at end of the tunnel. I just checked FedEx's website and it says that mine is in Shanghai shall be delivered on 25th. So all who were frustrated like me; check for updates.
-
Good news. My scheduled delivery was the 25th (according to FedEx website), but for some reason mine went through TN instead of IN and I have it today. Looks like they upgraded the shipping.
-
Lucky guy.. i just checked my tracking number which finally worked here is the status:
Sep 21, 2007 10:09 PM
Picked up
SHANGHAI CN
Package received after FedEx cutoff
8:22 PM

SHANGHAI CN

So my scheduled delivery would be on Sep 26, 2007 by 10:30 AM. Damn was hopping to get it this week..
*Just called fedex abt what shipment exception meant, something about customs so they will be shipping it out on the 22nd. Which is tomorrow i am still pissed. -
I just got off the phone with a FedEx rep and he told me my package hasn't left Shanghai yet.
Even though I got an email saying that it's shipped out on the 19th, there's no tracking info on my package.
I was hoping to get it sooner.
-
And now a word from the bozo who started this thread... me
--
FedEx tracking has come back to life, as has apparently the factory in Shanghai. My preciousssss is in Anchorage, w/an est delivery of 26th.
I keep seeing posts from a lot of you whose orders are stuck in Indy--do you live in the eastern part of the country? I ask, because I'm on the west coast, and hope my order can just come straight down from Alaska. But having dealt w/weirder shipping stuff before, I woldn't be a bit surprised if it went from Alaska to Indiana, then back to west coast.
Anyway, any left-coasters in this thread whose orders came down directly from Alaska, or did they all go thru Indy? Maybe something to do w/the Int'l aspect of the shipments?
I'm not anxious or anything... -
yea mine was in Alaska the other day and thought it would get here sooner since washington is pretty close but nah it went to Indianapolis next just like the others
-
Mine said it was in Indy, but checking it again it says it just left AK today. confusing!
-
mine just left Alaska, why on earth would u send it out further and back. Like i live in California, so i hope it does not go to indy and come back here, just waiting time...
