There seem to be some good deals out there for US customers looking to buy a current Envy 14 model. Are there any similar deals for the UK? Most places still seem to have it for ~£1000.

Also was the radiance screen ever offered for sale in the UK or just the 720p one?

John lewis seem to be the cheapest for the most up-to-date model for sale in the UK at £950. That includes a 2 year warranty and you can also save a further £150 if you trade in an old laptop.

Or you could go down the E-Bay route and get it for anything between £800-£900 brand new (supposedly). Or if you have someone you know who is in full time education you could get them to buy if for you using the HP Educational store (Google it) and get it for around £800.

The pretty much last option is to buy it from the US using one of the Ebay sellers. But you open yourself up to customs & VAT charges.

Ok, have been researching extensively and I think I worked out an unbeatable deal for the Envy 14, here in the UK. However, as the old saying if something seems too good to be true.... I would invite any comments.

    Currys currently have this -

    HP Envy 14-1050EA Refurbished Laptop

    Intel® Core™ i5-450M (2.4 GHz),
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 14.5 Widescreen, Memory 3072 MB, Hard drive: 500 GB, DVD-RW DL rewriter

For £729 complete with 12month warranty. you can add a discount code to get a further 7% off bringing it down to £677.97. I can get a further £150 off by trading in my 4 year old Sony Vaio bringing the price down to 527.97.

Compared to the HP main site which offers a 1090ea with only a 460m processor and 4gb memory to better it, for £999, I think this is a rather good deal.

I can upgrade the memory to 6gb easily for £30, so will the 450m be fine for playing games, multitasking through the Adobe CS5 suite and processing Camera RAW files in Lightroom 3?

With Currys is it possible to have the discount code and the trade in though? I'd be worried about the quality of the workmanship too.

The John Lewis deal with the trade in isn't too bad, only get £75 for a netbook though which is what I have at the moment. I'm not in a big hurry though and could wait to see what a Sandy Bridge upgrade offers, how much it costs and if that reduces the cost of the outgoing model much further.

I'd be grateful if any other offers were posted up here though too.

the hp trade-in website states in its FAQs -

    Q. Can I take part in this promotion and use a discount code?

    A. Yes.

So it all comes down to whether you want a refurb or not. It does come with a full 12 month warranty though.
