    Hi..

In the UK, HP like Lenovo gives the end-user very few available model options when you are looking at purchasing.

I'm interested in the nx9420 but it's nigh on impossible to find one with a 1680x1050 res screen without Brightview. And calls to HP have resulted in different or no answers.

Therefore it looks like the only realistic option is to look abroad. I've identified a few vendors who ship to the UK...I believe HP do themselves (and you can build your own config). Therefore I'd like any tips when thinking about purchasing/importing via the net from the US to the UK.

Now there's a few things I'm aware of..I'll have to pay VAT (but not duty), the mains adaptor cable will have to be changed (no problem)..and the keyboard set-up will be different (should be able to live with..although I'd like to know apart from the £ sign which keys are different).

One additional question is the warranty, I'm aware it's global but if I wanted to upgrade to 3yrs (or similar) then would I have to buy this at time of purchase or could I buy it from HP in the UK?

Thanks for any advice anyone can give... :)

I dont think HP's warranty is truely international. They only service the notebooks only if the peron is travelling internationally. So, if you bought the laptop in the US, you will most probably have to ship it back to the US in case of any warranty work & HP wont ship it back to any address outside the US. So, you will probably have to pay for shipping & know somebody in the US to have the laptop serviced for you & then ship it back to the UK.

In any case, I would suggest contacting HP & asking them about the warranty.

The problem I've found with HP is you get conflicting answers from different people. The UK website certainly implies the warranty is fully global but I guess you'd have to ask HP in both countries (and possibly one of their service partners) for a definitive answer.

I have heard of people having who bought the notebook in the US and have problems getting warranty work done overseas. So, thats why I suggested contacting HP and getting the stuff in writing.

Sadly I've found the answer I didn't want to find on the US site.

    Well that's that then :(

That one doesn't seem to have brightview. The other hp notebooks that have brightview says it. You could always give them a call.

Even the HP website doesn't say it, not that means much!

There are quite a few in the UK that don't mention brightview.

    good luck

The RH457ET version, is always equipped with Bright view. You probably need the RH450ET version in order to get the matte screen.

That's quite strange Chris... all 450s i've seen came with a matte screen. That's the only difference between a 457 and a 450 after all as far as i know.. it's the only one not offering bright view in the range of 9420 with a WSXGA+ screen.... hmmm... i'll check it again though...

Thanks for all the futher replies...yes, I've gone into all the different models!

I called HP three times over the last fortnight and have had different answers. The last time yesterday said the 457 was non Brightview. But after checking with two resellers it's 100% Brightview.

The UK website is confusing...says Brightview in model overview but fails to mention it in the individual specs. Poor.

As for using a shipping service, well I'm still not 100% about how the warranty would work. I need some solid advice. Also what makes one service better than another? I've looked at a few including the one mentioned above.
