    hello everybody..
ok, i have a problem with my two and half week old hp dv2225. Earlier i got an update message for the computer, and it said there were 2 recommended updates and 5 optional. I thought before i did it and read over them but decided to go ahead and do all of them. Afterwards my sound was gone. I checked and it says there was no audio output device installed.

Why did this update remove my sound device--it was supposed to update it, maybe next time i should only do the IMPORTANT ones---right?

So anyway i did a "roll back to previous driver" and it still isn't working. I haven't restarted my computer yet but i wanted to go ahead and post this first before shutting it down.

I think it did some kind of update to my video also..should i roll that back too?

Anyone got any advice for me?

    UPDATE...restarted and it still isn't working!! I am furious....what do i do??

    Thanks guys!

What shows up in device manager? I'm assuming that the sound device shows up, right? Either way, run the Audio driver install from your SwSetup folder, and you'll hopefully be good to go.

Also, what updates did you install? Was there an updated audio driver or something? Microsoft's version of Conexant drivers have issues so you probably want to avoid them.

    its the nr

Also..yeah, im pretty sure it was an audio update, but i thought...why not, it will only keep it up to date...after i did it, i was having second thoughts.

When i click on the device manager
then i click on the sound, video and game controllers and
it has the conexant high def audio,
when i double click on that it says no drivers are installed for this device.
On the tab for drivers there was a roll back driver button, it was lit up so i went ahead and did that, but it didnt help.
From there i went to the hp help and support and it gave me an option of obtaining the original software and drivers. I havent done this yet.

    Thanks again guys

So should i not obtain the original software and drivers from "HP help"
    Would that be easier?
How do i get to the SwSetup\Audio folder?

    *UPDATE*...i found the SwSetup audio folder but when i click on it there is all the other things such as Rec; V32; V64; 1000646.CVA; IPATHS; Setup;
I just want everything back the way it was..thats why i asked about the recovery manager program to just reinstall all the original factory software and hardware drivers.

I would like to do the same with my video driver also because after i did the updates my video driver stopped working a couple of times also.

Should i, from now on, not do updates unless they are "recommended" or "important"?
    Thanks!!

djqueenraine -- you have a couple of options. If you back up your personal files first, you can absolutely boot to the recovery partition and let it restore your system to to exactly how it shipped. You will lose all programs and files that you put on the machine since you got it, though -- so be SURE to backup anything you need.

The other option is to run the Setup.exe file from within the audio directory you found. Don't worry about anything else. It's the setup file you need to run. That should reinstall the HP audio drivers. If you want the HP graphics driver back you should be able to find that their also, in the video or graphcis directory. Alternatively, you can go to the HP download page for your system at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3340127&lang=en . That page lists all the drivers HP has approved for your system, and you can download the same audio and graphics drivers for your system there.

Either way you go, you should get your system back pretty close to the way it shipped. It's really a matter of preference.

As to future updates, I would only download the updates that directly apply to Windows. When driver updates are posted to Windows Update, they tend to be for generic hardware. On notebook computers, much of the hardware may be somewhat "specialized" by the computer-maker, in this case HP. Using the HP drivers (as opposed to the Windows Update drivers) should prevent a number of problems for you in the future. Also, it's worth mentioning that HP does update their drivers periodically, and you can always get the latest drivers either by going to the website I linked you to, or by running the "HP Update" program that came preinstalled on your computer.

Anyway, let us know what you decide to do and how it goes.
