How many hdd spaces does it have? Is it worth it to upgrade the hdd from 5400 to 7200 and add the 32gb mssd or should i just add another hdd/ssd later? I ask because my budget is limited as of now and want to cut back as much as possible. Thanks
btw Im talking about the new IB laptops -
Everyone - I know that most of you (including myself!) are excited about these new notebooks, so I have created an owners lounge thread ahead of time:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...v7t-7xxx-series-ivy-bridge-owners-lounge.html
Enjoy - and keep the discussion going!
You can upgrade the laptop's HDD or SSD after you buy - the upgrades on the HP website are rather pricey at the moment. -

I no im gonna be scolded for going with the 2gb 650m, and not going for the mSSD, but im ok with it. I know from using my parrents xps laptop that an 7200rpm is plenty fast gcompared to my 6 year old computer, plus even though it most likely won't help, the 2gb will be a nice "just incase i do need it later" for multiple high rez screens. I planned on getting an external screen/tv evetually anyways, so it will be nice that i can run those in hd aswell.
Plus since im guessing most of you buying this won't be like me, now we have a comparison lol. -
NBY3752 gives you 400 bucks off..........
-
Yes lol, but hp already has an 250 instant rebate that does not stack with the coupon, in reality, your only geting 150 off, wich is still fairly nice, practicly the FHD screen for free.
-
Ice H4wk - You didn't ordered mSSD so let us know if there is msata port when this option wasn't choosen. I'm thinking about this series, but 32gb mSSD is to small for me, and i'am thinking about buying 64gb somewhere.
-
I want 1TB HDD as compared to 750 GB . So will have to choose 5400 RPM . Will 5400 RPM be too slow as compared to 7200 RPM in daily operations .?
Won't transfer data much on the HDD . But more HDD space is my priority .... -
Should i go for the 400$ off coupon , or is there any chance to get a 33% off coupon sometime soon .? Plz Advice ...
Also , Will the Nvidia GT 650 M in dv6 have Optimus .? It's nowhere mentioned ... -
noone can guess but coupons are almost always out. when the 400$ coupon expiers im guessing 30% then maybe 500$ off then 33% (just a random guess haha)
and yes the 650m will have optimus -
With the 33% coupons is that usually with minimum configured price $999 or is it higher like minimum $1200?
-
is the intel i7 cpu extremely expensive in comparison to the i5? The DV7 quad always seems so overpriced in comparison to the the other intel DV7s even with the coupons offered on the Quad and considering the allegedly 'free' blue ray drive, ram upgrades and etc.
Anyone know if HP will offer customizable AMD DV7s? I want a AMD 1080p with the an upgraded GPU, but I have never seen this anywhere for the DV7-6000 or DV7-7000 -
So far the AMD versions are just appearing in DV6Z 15.6" form factors in the united states . There are no 17inch versions being sold on the HP website.
HOWEVER, on HP Canada, it shows that there are DV7 AMD laptops with the 6755g2 setup (6750m + llano APU). It is strange that I cannot find these models on the HP US website.
HP Pavilion dv7-6188ca Entertainment Notebook PC (LY123UA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office Products
The next refresh will come when AMD Trinity APUs are released, which is expected to be around 2 weeks from now.
The dedicated GPU will be updated (no one is sure what the new GPU will be though). However, the new APUs will feature integrated graphics that should blow the new intel HD 4000 out of the water (depending on which APU you buy) -
So in effect is GT650M able to use 2GB of RAM in any case .??
Is it worth to go for it .? -
impatient canuck here
-
dont get the 2 gb unless you have money to waste... and if you do, then paypal it to me instead
-
lol , and could you please clarify whether Optimus is supported or not in the dv6 .?
-
It is definitely supported.
-
Is anyone worried about the screen split hinge Arrangement? I would much rather have the full bar layout that was used in the previous 6xxx generation as it feels more sturdy (maybe that's just me ?)
-
BTW how do we get the drivers for the customized models .? Do customized models also have a model no. for which the drivers can be downloaded from the drivers page on hp.com or what .?
-
I'm confused what to go for 1TB HDD over 750 GB ( 5400rpm ) or choose 2GB vRAM for GT650 M against 1 GB . Can choose only either one of them ..!
Plz advice ... -
I'll go out on a limb and offer that we can't decide for you if you need the extra 250GB of disk, or will use the extra GB of video memory.
-
No just wanna know whether that extra GB of VRam will actually be of any use in any situation like gaming on 1080p on laptop screen etc or not .?
-
very impatient canuck here! i need to figure out a way to get one of these.. 4 year old dv5's screen is on it's last couple days...
-
shashank, if you read the previous posts i said that the 2 gbs arent worth it if you are going to be gaming at 1080p. even if you hook your laptop up to higher res screens, it wont matter cause the card's hardware would bottle neck b4 memory. so DONT go 2 gb.
as for 1 tb, do you really need that? the only time i would go up that high is:
a) i need it for work (video/photo editing or something)
b) I have a lot of games and movies and music that I want all to be in one place (i always put these on backup and only keep current on hdd)
the highest amount of gb's i have ever used at a certain time including os is around 200 gbs it depends on your preference. if you dont need that much just get the 750 cause the 7200rpm will be a slight improvement in loadup times. the mssd is a good idea if you need room but want faster load times. I personally am going to put a 256 gb ssd in my laptop when i get it -

Don't forget... right now dvt7 quad purchases have no choice if they want the 650m, it only comes in 2GB, you can't get the 1GB. dv7's only have the 630m for a 1GB option. -
haha yeah well if u have no choice... obv go for 2 gb gt 650m over gt 630m
i was saying if he had the option to get 1 over 2. also now that i think about it, i think all oems are offering the gt 650m ddr5 in 2gb i think ddr3 is 1 gb
-
For the DV6 both 650m's are GDDR5 so 1GB is still enough

Does anyone know if the DV7-7000 series supports more than 8G of RAM? In New Zealand, we can only buy them pre-assembled. Thinking of getting this, but according to HP here, the laptop only supports maximum of 8G, but I really need 16G? Can anyone help please?
Also, I'm keen to remove the 32G SSD and the 2TB mechanical drive from the laptop and replace with 2 120G SSDs. Does anyone know whether the DV7 supports RAID? If not, I should still be able to swap out the drives and use them (non raided), right?
CHeers -
yes both the dv6 and the dv7-7000 support up to 16 gigs, the problem is i think the model you listed has the mSSD which most people speculate take up one of the ram slots, since when we try to customize one, and after putting in the mSSD we can no longer select more then 8 gb.
Also most people have moved to this forum http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...v7t-7xxx-series-ivy-bridge-owners-lounge.html -
they hit canada....with 1333x768 resolution. sigh

Does anyone know if DELL is still planning a release on a design like this? -
This is legit, has been confirmed by Dell employee on this forum and will be released mid June.

I find it crazy that its mid May and while Lenovo and HP has Ivy Bridge lineups out of the doors.. Dell is still floating around on their lineups? Except for the overpriced Alienwares...
