    USB 3.0 driver problems with SB envy 17

    Hello everyone. I've recently purchased a new SB Envy 17. Upon receiving it, I promptly removed one of the 500GB drives and installed an SSD. Everything went great in the W7 reinstall with one exception; I encounter an error every time I attempt to install the USB 3.0 drivers. Upon running the .exe from HP, the following error returns:

    Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.
    c:\Windows\Installer\{5442DAB8-7177-49E1-8B22-09A049EA5996}\1033.mst

    The USB device is listed as unknown in the device manager.

    I have even attempted to manually browse to the directory created by the .exe (C:\swsetup\SP50564\Files), and it will claim the driver install was successful. At that point, I can also see the Renesas USB controller in the device manager, but the 'Unknown device' still lingers and the USB 3.0 drive will not work with any device I've tried. I've attached a screen of the device manager.

    Check VID (Vendor ID) and PID (Product ID) - xxxx hex number for both - in device properties and then google it to find out what it is. Most probably it has nothing to do with USB 3.0.

    Your missing device is possibly the acellerometer for the hard drive. Run windows update and look to see what hardware devices there are updates for.

    Solved.

    I Google'd the hex values you suggested and they all came back with USB 3.0 related info. I then tried to install the HP driver again and made a note of the directory in the error message. I then deleted that folder entirely and ran the install again. This time a different error occurred. I thought I had really messed it up then. However, I then rebooted the laptop and ran the install again and it worked! I now have a fully functional USB 3.0 port!
