When I plug in my USB SD Card, I get a message saying that it is not plugged into a high-speed USB port. I get the message when I plug it into either port, but not when I plug it into my desktop. How can I not limit my card's speed on my laptop? Thanks.

I get the same message from my otherwise very nice Skype phone. Plugging it into my powered USB hub fixes it. I'm guessing that ATI's USB controller isn't fully bug compliant with whatever USB controller is in these devices. Anyhow, buying a hub is a cheap and useful workaround.

this happens too as well (don't have an hp machine). this is probably b/c your machine is older and uses an older version of usb (probably 1.0). the only way to get something like what brianstretch mentioned.

No, his v2000z and my dv8000z are still being sold, it's just an oddball compatibility issue. All my numerous other USB 2.0 devices (including HDTV tuner) work correctly. If a computer only has USB 1.1 ports then buying a USB 2.0 hub won't help at all.

It happened to me recently for no obvious reason. I have three powered USB 2.0 ports on my laptop. One day it just said that whatever I connected that worked as 2.0 before - now needs a High-speed blah blah....
So I checked my hardware device manager and guess what - I learned a thing or two.
First go to device manager, find Universal Serial controllers down below.
click.
read carefully - you will see like 3,4,5,6 or whatever number of something like
Intel xxxxx USB Universal Host controller xxxx or whatever.
BUT....
Under all of those and before the first USB Root Hub, there should be one labeled:
Intel xxxxx USB2 Universal Host controller
notice the USB2. It is the one that is responsible for delivering the hi-speed transfer rates through the USB. There can be only one but all of your ports will be USB 2.0.
I went to Intel pages, and downloaded the newest intel inf utility for my chipset (i915), and restarted the comp. And there it was again - USB 2.0. on all my ports. I also removed all my USB controllers and let Plug and Play do it's job.
Cheers,
Ivan
