Hi all -
I bought a brand spankin new HP DV2745, which is a best buy exclusive. comes with an AMD TL-60, 250GB HD, 3GB Ram, etc.
I hooked up an external hard drive which is USB 2.0 compliant. I get the message in the system tray saying "This could run faster if plugged into a high speed port."
How do I get my USB ports, which I'm sure are USB 2.0, to actually act USB 2.0?
Damn Vista i presume. I hvaen't found an easy guide to put XP back on this bad boy, otherwise I'd do it! if anyone has help in that regard too, let me know. From what I've read, the 250GB SATA drive is a problem.

I've had the same problem trying to use the WUSB300N USB NETWORK CARD on my Desktop. I'd plug it in. It would ask for the CD and it would install I guess the drivers for 1.1 and the window would pop up telling me to that USB 2.0 is much faster and update my hardware.
The problem was my fault for not reading the little note included in the box.
It said I had to go to the Linksys website to download the Vista Drivers.
Once I did. It found the USB enhanced or 2.0 drivers.
No more message popped up.
One added question. Are you plugging in the drive into an external hub?
If you are try plugging it directly into the PC's usb port.
Just incase. You may want to go to your device manager and check the USB devices and make sure they are USB 2.0. Should say Enhanced USB or USB 2 Enhanced.
This is a new PC so I'm sure they are too. But I did read a note that said on some PC with 4 ports that 2 may be set to 1.1.
You can get to the device manger the same way you did in XP.
Or by typing device Manager in the vista start search window and press enter.
USB Speeds (ext. hd) extremely slow? says not usb 2.0
