I have a notebook cooler which stays on when my dv9700t goes into standby. It's actually quite annoying. Is there any way to fix this?

Hmmm, there's no bios setting to turn off this feature? I fear for the lifetime expectancy of my usb devices when they're always on.

Its not on the BIOS. Go to your battery power settings first and go to Advanced Power settings. Theres an option there that has something to do with the USB settings

If that doesnt work try going to your device manager and go through the USB controller list, theres also settings here too

Hmm, not seeing anything in the advanced power settings section in my Xp. Looking in the USB controller list. Could you elaborate? I'm having a hard time figuring this out.

Go to Device Manager and expand the USB controllers (probably the last in the list).
Double click one of the USB Root Hubs.
On the Properties box, click on the Power Management tab.
Check the box for Allow the computer to turn off this device...

How strange, all of my usb root hub entries have that thing checked. Another thread claims this is a function of the santa rosa chipset.
