I was thinking about buying this external hard drive that is powered by my USB port but after reading reviews for this

I don't think it will be able to.
Does anyone know?

This hard drive is a little weird and like the reviews say, it requires more power than the average USB device. My friend had the exact same model and when I connected, my TM8204 wouldn't recognize it. I have four USB ports so I tried all of them. Turns out, the USB ports closest to my battery/power plugin worked and supplied enough power for the drive to activate and be recongnized by windows. So it's definitely not one of the most compatible, but it is a very sleek and durable hard drive. My friend has repeatedly dropped his and it still works.

According to the spec, a USB port only needs to supply 2.5W of power.
Most ports are limited somewhere south of 1 amp/5w though.
Some computers, especially older equipment, have no limit at all.
But bottom line: only 2.5W is guaranteed. -
So, can my laptop be able to supply sufficient power to the external hard drive?
It seems the 60gb version I wouldnt have to worry about but 120gb is only £15 more for double the space, and that version seems to have more problems :S
Is it because it's of a large capacity?
