I plugged my hi-speed internet stick in my laptop (presario v5000), and it said that I am missing "HI-SPEED USB host controllers". this probably occured since I recently reformatted everything. How do I get these controllers back?

    Hi,
I had that problem a few weeks ago. Go to the device manager and open USB Controllers. There should be listed 4 or more USB 1 controllers, but under all of them should be one USB2 Enhanced controller. You probably don't have it. First I applied the newest Intel chipset drivers. Then restarted. And it magically reappeared. You can also try removing all USB controllers and leave Plug and play to fix it. But I think Intel chipset drivers helped in my case.

    Hope this helps,

    Ivan

I have an AMD sempron, so would the itel chipset still work? Where can I download the chipset?

No. It wouldn't. Try some chipset drivers that came with your notebook, if you have them. If not, then it leaves you with a hope that Windows can reinstall that device. You can also try manually add that USB2 controller. I don't know what causes this, and I was lucky with intel chipset driver that can be found on www.intel.com. It covers all kinds of system drivers for buses, controllers etc...

Try support pages for you notebook. Maybe they have something called system drivers or something.
