Anyone have any success? I did some searching and didn't find too much. I was on the ubuntu forums and they had a thread but it was kinda difficult to follow...

Anyone have any success stories or pointers?

    Thanks

Agree. Wait for Gutsy Gibbon due out in October.
The problem lies in the kernal. You could load up the text based alternate version of 7.04, and then install the new kernal, but it's complicated. I'm going to wait.

If you do want to try then search the Ubuntu forums for the term "DV6500" and that will bring up all the threads. There's a guide in there, but it's already outdated and the guy wants to re-write it.

For the curious....take a look at forums.ubuntu.com; there is a section on HP Laptops. This allowed me to boot a LIVE CD to play around and see what works out of the box. There are a lot of drivers out there but you will have to do some work to get there.

Not sure if you would be interested in running it in a VM. It runs great on my DV9500T using VMWare Workstation and on the free VMWare Player. They also have several prebuilt Ubantu VM's that can be freely downloaded (it works best if you get VMTools installed - as you can resize the screen to any size including full screen).
