    Hello,

I'm thinking of buying this laptop. I will be running Ubuntu as my only OS on it. Are there things that -currently- do not work with 11.04 (e.g. finger print reader)?

    Thanks!

I'm not using Ubuntu so i'm just speculating..

from my experience using another distro.
    1. Display brightness.
    2. Wifi adapter.
    3. Fingerprint reader.
    4. AMD HD6770M.
    5. Touchpad On/Off.
    6. TurboBoost.

    1. Yeah it was working before <= F.07 but now i'm on F.14..
    2. My wifi adapter is Ralink RT5390, didn't work out of the box..
    4. I tried and X failed to start. =(
    6. I'm using 2.6.39. How to check if the TurboBoost is working?

    Yeah, I use alsaequal for a system-wide-eq instead. =\

Ubuntu supports every hardware except the new fingerprint and you need to use modprobe to get the right-click on the touchpad to work.

of course beats audio is not going to work but that doesn't mean that sound won't work. It just not as loud as Windows.

    try turbostat : http://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/lenb/acpi/utils/pmtools/turbostat/turbostat.c

you should have it in the repo.

wifi card: if it didn't work out of the box it doesn't mean it doesn't work.
compile the kernel your-self, it's not a big deal.

beats audio is not just the speakers, but also the headphone jack, I want it to work! (damn HP ).

right click on the touchpad works, what doesn't work ( for me at least ) is the special key on the upper left corner that switches the touchpad on/off

I don't think the dv6z (Llano) will even boot Linux without an Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 2 installation.

    dv6t should fine.

For either case, no Radeon access yet.

the headphone jack works, but when beats audio enabled, it should give better sound quality. on linux you don't have that!

Just in case anyone stumbles into this thread as I did looking for help, I haven't had any issues with most of these, figured I'd post my experience on Arch:

    1) Display brightness works just fine. Add the following to the 'boot' line in /boot/grub/menu.lst: acpi_backlight=vendor

    2) Wifi works perfectly for me, using iwlagn

    3) Fingerprint reader doesn't work, doesn't look like it ever will. The packages required for that haven't been updated in years.

    4) Graphics card works just fine for me with the open source AMD drivers. Proprietary drivers do not.

    5) Not sure what you mean about disabling the trackpad; I can find no way to do that even under Windows with this model.

    6) Turbo boost: haven't investigated. Frequency scaling does seem to work fine though.

    7) Beats Audio -- can't get all four speakers to work at once, though I can choose either one of the pairs. Set your snd_hda_intel module with 'model=ref' for the bottom two; 'model=auto' for the top two. Some people have apparently gotten all four with 'model=ref', but I can only get two; still working on that though.

Mine with the new kernel 3.1.x

    1) Works for me now
    2) Works out of the box too.
    3) Doesn't work.
    4) Open source driver works but i can't switch to HD6770M.
    5) You can disable touchpad in windows by double tapping the top left corner of the touchpad.
    6) Works
    7) All 4 speakers works for me but need to lower down the front speaker volume a little bit.

    2. Wifi adapter. Works out of the box
    3. Fingerprint reader. Didnt check
    4. AMD HD6770M. You need a special package like bumblebee
    5. Touchpad On/Off. Didn't test
    6. TurboBoost. Didn't test
