I love the home premium vista so far. But would vista ultimate have all what this have plus some more. Is there any feature that I would miss from home premium in vista ultimate??

Edit: The vista ultimate I am getting is 64-bit while the home premium I have the option for is 32-bit. I know most programs are 32-bit these days and nothing much is going to change in next 2-3 yrs for which I am keeping my notebook. Would it be worth it to upgrade to 64-bit ultimate??? I certainly do already love home premium I have, and dont know if 64-bit ultimate be more features or more pain (i have read threads abt 64-bit having some complaints) for me in future.... Plz suggest what should I choose??

No... there is no other Vista edition with a feature Ultimate doesn't have.

Answer: NO! I once had a laptop purchased with Windows Vista Home Premium. After playing with it for 2 days, I upgraded to to Vista Ultimate. Every feature from Home Premium is in Vista Ultimate. Plus, with ultimate, you get all of the goddies that Vista Business offers.

The main thing that Home Premium offers that Vista Business does not have is "Windows Media Center".

Some of the things that Vista Business offers that Home Premium does not have is: accessing previous versions of files (Hint: Mac users know this feature in leopard OS as Time Machine) , enhanced data security, useful business tools, such as windows fax...

With Vista Ultimate, you get both versions in one, plus the "extra goodies" that you can download from Microsoft for free, like "Dreamscene", which allows animated or video desktop backgrounds.

I am getting prepared to buy a dv9700t and have the 32bit or 64bit option - I have been reading the threads in the Windows OS software forum and I am pretty much convinced to go with 64bit to be ahead of the curve. I mainly use MSFT programs and the web 95% of the time, so I am not too worried about compatability - which seems to be the only con.

64 bit, the main problem is finding drivers...
As far as looks go, they are the same if that's what you care about. There's really not that many more helpful features in Ultimate, imo.
Stick with home premium 32 bit.

Well, in the laptop that I have on order right now, I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Expect 64 bit to take off over the next year or two. Many more software developers are releasing 64 bit versions of their software. Plus 99% of the current 32bit programs WILL RUN OK on the 64 bit version of VISTA. The ONLY problem is the availability of drivers for your peripherals. I urge you to research and see whether or not all of the peripherals that you commonly hook up to your computer have 64 bit drivers available.

Does that mean the plug-n-play devices dont always stay plug-n-play under 64-bit?? What kind of devices could have the problem. I usually use mouse keyboard usb-drives and game mousepads sometimes. Could those have problems?
And thinking abt it, if I ever need ultimate in future, I can always upgrade, right?? Question is, is there any really good feature set in vista ultimate that I would need over home premium??

Well, as I said before, Vista Ultimate offers some very sweet extras for the user experience over Vista Home Premium. YOu get all the benefits from Home Premium and Vista Business, plus more!! But when you talk about drivers and plug and play functionality for Vista 64 bit of any edition, you start heading down a dark path indeed. I would check with the manufacturers for ALL peripherals, including your plug and play devices, to ensure compatibility. And yes, you can upgrade at a later date if you so choose. There is a cost for doing so, but since your system with have a 64 bit CPU, you can always upgrade at a later date.
