If you have Ultra BrightView, could you check which maker you have? To do that, go to Control panel -> Device manager -> Monitor -> right click on Generic PnP -> Properties -> go to the Details tab and find Hardware ID field in the drop down menu.

I have CMO1704 (ChiMei), and after my LCD is warmed up (takes about 10 minutes), it shows white patches running across the screen:

To be fair, they are not as pronounced as seen in the picture, as I have adjusted the levels of the picture, but nonetheless, they are there.

    Thanks!

I don't have a HP with the UltraBrightview, but if you aren't satisfied with it and you think that something is wrong return it to HP and have them replace it. For me, monitors on laptops are extremely important, and I have to have a perfectly functioning monitor, especially when I'm traveling and I can't connect another monitor on it.

This is a replacement laptop, and I'm not sure if my previous laptop had this issue. Maybe I was too preoccupied with the dead pixels it had all over the place. Maybe I only checked the screen only right after boot-up.

Also, I found a thread on CMO LCD ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=98007), and I wonder if Ultra BrightView display is supposed to be like this.

I just received my dv9700 CTO with Ultra Brightview.
The "Details" in the Properties menu for the monitor shows nothing other than
    "Generic PnP Monitor".
I cannot say which brand and what reference.
But I can say that the display looks gorgeous.

Hi. Right click on "Generic PnP Monitor" and select Properties -> go to the Details tab and find Hardware ID field in the drop down menu.

    Thanks!

Read my lips: there is no Hardware ID field
Nothing, nada, zilch, rien, menem. Just what I said. Probably not that custom made, my notebook, after all :D

    That's odd, but thanks anyway.

Does anyone have a different manufacturer than CMO?

Read my lips: I was wrong, totally, stupidly wrong. I deeply apologise for my mistake.
    I have a CMO 1704. Still gorgeous.

Thanks for the reply. Anyway, I've returned my laptop, and I think I'm gonna go for 17" WUGXA (Not HP) instead.

Doesn't the Ultra BrightView screen use dual backlamps? If I'm not mistaken, what you're seeing could simply be light leakage. The reason you have to wait 10 minutes is because the backlamps haven't fully "warmed up" yet, and therefore are not at their normal brightness levels yet.

Does anyone know how I could hook up with a "17.0" diagonal WXGA+ High-Definition HP Ultra BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)? I just have the BrightView and they're not offering the Ultra BrightView option any more. My screen is too dim. I do graphics work. I figured why spend the extra money if I'll be mostly using an external monitor anyway. So I went for the higher resolution instead. But now I wish I had bought the other one. Wonder who makes these and if I could buy one directly from the manufacturer or from someone else. I looked at the CMO website but they don't offer that model number. Thx. :)
